County treasurer Clair Jate reports many owners rush to pay back taxes before the May 28 deadline to avoid listing in the sale notices. Mortgage holders rarely advance, leaving most payments to individuals as hundreds of dollars pour into the treasurer’s office. The paper notes a large delinquent list and a recent birth in the Thorley family.
Official call for a 28 delegate county Democratic convention to be held in Cedar City next Wednesday at 8 o'clock. Delegates will be chosen to the state Democratic Convention in Ogden on May 11 and to the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia in June. The convention will select a state Democratic committeeman and delegates to the national convention. Delegates from Parowan districts are assigned by voting strength. primary elections to pick delegates are set for Monday at 8 o'clock in the courthouse.
The Parowan Democratic party schedules a primary to elect delegates to a county convention in Cedar City May 18 and to conduct other business. Each voting district names its own delegates and holds separate district meetings prior to the primary chaired by T Wendell Boyles.
Clinton Thornton, son of Mr and Mrs Mervill Thornton of this city, is rising in local racing circles. A California clipping notes Bahamas, a horse bred and owned in California, won Bay Meadows feature race in a two mile $1,000 purse, ridden by Canton Thorsen, with Mickeys Man second and Coldwater third. Bahamas paid $7.60, with $4,090 and $3.00 to place and show respectively.

Early morning uproar as a bull nearly wrecks a barber shop on main street. The animal charged through car lots and aimed at plate glass windows, pawing and bellowing while bystanders dodged. It did not engage in fatal combat, but the scene left the storefront damaged and the crowd startled.
Misa Marlan Mortensen of this city marries Lieutenant Aubrey Me's Matlin of Otho on a Saturday during fish week. Mortensen, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. E. Lo Mortensen, met her husband while in Springdale Waslington county that summer. Matlin has served with army overhead and helped with CCC ramps in Zien National Park for two years.
Parowan High School Band participates in the state music contest at Logan with about thirty six bands. Roughly 80 personnel travel from Parowan along with faculty and parents, assembling with Cedar City and Hurricane groups. The combined contingent reaches Milford and Beaver, joining a larger train to the event. return details are incomplete.
A county reduced its bonded debt by transferring 21000 to a bonding company. Three thousand paid off road bonds and two thousand paid hospital bonds, per County Clerk Wy Clair Row Ney. The payment cuts the county’s long standing bonded indebtedness to about 862 200.
The Utah National Parks Scout Somneil announces a spring council meeting and social at First Ward Recreation Hall Cedar City on Saturday May 2. The event includes regular business training and a snappy musical program followed by a pow wow at 9 30 with community singing scout games and social dancing. Refreshments served during the pow wow. Members of the Lions club heard County Agent La Wont Tueller discuss the state noxious weed program, a WPA project, during a Tuesday evening meeting at Taylor’s cafe. Tueller warned that weed infestations like Whitetop and Canadian Thistle threaten yields and farm value, urging eradication and an education push for cleaner seed. The luncheon moved to Monday noon, May 1, at the same venue.
City marshal Harvey Dalton warns bicycle riders to stop riding on sidewalks and to stay in the street for safety. He cites numerous complaints from pedestrians and notes a city ordinance prohibiting sidewalk riding will be enforced to protect small bicycle owners and ensure courteous sharing of sidewalks.

The Democratic county committee completed its organization on Monday evening, approving five at large committeemen named by County Chairman Rulon ffendte. Appointees are Tay lor Miller Parowan Walter Robb Paragouah Parley Dalley and Cahton Milne Cedar Clix Alton Ford Kanara. They adopted rules to guide committee actions and set a date for the county convention. Young district No 2 reorganization followed the resignation of George Chilton as district chair. J Alton Belitor moved to chair. Claude Orton named secretary. Thomas Bettridge and his young crew of Callente Nevada visited here overnight with family.
The State West and Gams Commissioner Newell B. Cook ordered closing Yankee reservoir and Hendricks on a lake to fishing until July 1 at the Gun & Rod Club request to protect small fish. He will visit to assess confining Little Salt Lake waters for a migratory waterfowl refuge and to see what the department can do for such a project. Eggs for pheasant propagation have been allocated to clubs for the season.
Trail Markers Ready For Bronze Plague marker to honor early settlement will be unveiled with a Sunday May 19 ceremony after the stake conference. Similar markers will be placed at New Harmony May 9 Trenton May 9 and Gonah May 10 with officials from Trails and Landmarks Oregon Trails and church authorities attending. A tour of Harmony and Iron Mountain development will follow with a noon lunch.
Parowan West Ward M A plans a Ward honor night next Tuesday May 3 in the recreation hall. The program includes two one act plays musical selections and other scenes. A dance will follow with the event open to the public. a list of attendees includes Kate T Seaman Alice M Stevens Velma Toyles and many others.
The West Ward Relief Society held a Tuesday meeting honoring mothers and daughters with songs, prayers, readings, and tributes. Mrs Malinda M Adame led the program. several mothers with many daughters received mentions and bouquets, and a luncheon was served.
