Busy Law And Motion Day In Tron County Court

A regular Law and Motion day term of the Fifth Judicial District for Tron County was held with Judge Abe Turner in Provo. Judge Wil L Hoyt attended a murder trial in Nephi. District Attorney Ellis J Pickett was absent. Multiple civil and probate matters were heard and several judgments and divorces issued, including default rulings against various defendants and a divorce for Georgia Davis from Atlan Davis. The Alger parole case was deferred, bond set at 500 dollars, and Goodnow placed under parole monitoring.

Civic Clubs Meet in Milford Saturday and Sunday

The Associated Civic Clubs of Southern Utah plan a Milford gathering this weekend to discuss Forest Service CCG camps. A protest over their removal is planned to prevent delays to local development work. Special speakers include Vail Pittman, E F Baldwin, William Allincon, and J Stephenson detailing regional building needs.

Principal Snow to Head Dixie Junior College

Glenn E. Snow, longtime Parowan High School principal, was appointed president of Dixie Junior College by the State Board of Education. He will assume July 1, succeeding B. Glenn Smith who resigned due to health. The board also named Dr. Eldon Sessiona president of Carbon Junior College at Price. Snow began as Parowan principal in 1933 after leading Timucuaana high school for several years.

Parowan Garden Club Plant Exchange and Meeting

Garden club calls all gardeners to gschool on Monday March 28 at 4 o'clock room 16. Four good programs will be given. Bring extra seeds and plants to exchange. Orders for shrubs expected to arrive by then.

Local Relief Societies Observe Annual Day

Local Relief Societies from two wards held their Annual Day in the West Ward Recreation Hall at 2 pm on Thursday March 17. The program led by President Melinda M Adams featured songs prayers and readings including The One Red Rose and Gift of God. Oldest members and long-time volunteers were recognized and a social hour with ice cream cake and barley coffee followed a late-afternoon performance by a local group. Weather limited attendance but the event proceeded with a play It Cant Happen Were by the B A C drawing a hearty audience.

Granville Warren Dies and Is Buried in Local Chapel

Funeral services were held at Weet Ward Chapel for Granville Haskell Warren born September 9, 1893 in Pioche Nevada. He died Saturday night at home after years of illness. Bishop T Wendell Bayles led the service with Mitchell Evans Ward and others speaking. Warren leaves Magda Worthen and four daughters Shirey Laltne Beth Marie, and two sons Edelth and Karl, plus siblings and extended family.

Vocational Day Features at Grand Agricultural College

The Grand Agricultural College hosts Vocational Day on Saturday April 2 with a Business show and demonstrations led by Leah Mouritsen Warne Bennion and Gwendolyn Hanson. Exhibits include dictaphone mimeograph and other business machines plus textbooks and materials. Poultry killing demo led by Professor Carl Frischknecht and FFA speaking contests live stock judging and typewriting shorthand bookkeeping contests. The day runs from 6:00 am to 4:30 pm with registration contests demonstrations lunch and winners announced.

The FE A annual opera The Czar and the Zimmerman in English will be presented in Cedar City auditorium Monday March 28 with a double cast and a chorus of forty. Harold Pfister of Sheboygan will sing the title role, aided by a list of regional performers from Cedar City Parowan and Delta. Following Cedar City shows it tours Parowan Delta St George with travel plans for Wilford Day party.

Caliente Flood Damages Betttridge Home In Nevada

Caliente Herald reports the Bettridge home and belongings valued at $1,000 were ruined by a March flood. Wilford Gurr also faced $1,000 in losses. area damage including roads and the Union Pacific line estimated at $100,000. Bettridge family reportedly able to reoccupy their home this week.

Democrats Reorganize Parowan Voting Districts

Iron County Democrats named officers for three Parowan voting districts at a Monday primaries in the County Courthouse. Each district elected a chairman, vice chairwoman, secretary, treasurer, and three committeemen at large with delegates to the county convention on March 30 to reorganize for the fall election.

Big Acreages Of Seed Potatoes To Be Planted In Iron County

Iron County farmers agreed to double the planted acreage of White Rose seed potatoes for Kern County. North Dakota grower A Mfr. Lyell will supply three carloads more on credit, with payment due at delivery and at harvest. Plan includes a potato grading warehouse and a grower organization to market the crop, with Cedar Valley and Parowan-Paragonah signups listed and others welcome.
