City Council held a special meeting on delinquent special improvement taxes. Delinquents were invited to present proposals to settle their accounts. About half attended and offered plans to clear payments. Three city parcels tied to improvements face May tax sale, risking loss of equity. Final settlement due by August with all payments to be completed.
Jeen Guymon parked a truck on Mainz Street in Cedar City during a weekday. A city tag required him to appear at Justice Court after violating Section sixteen of the new traffic ordinance prohibiting certain vehicles from parking on Mainz Street between Center and First West, leading to confusion and questions about the rule.
The U.S. Army Recruiting Service offers 35 Intermountain region youths a two year deployment in the Philippines with voyage via San Francisco Honolulu and Manila aboard the U.S. Grant transport. After service they return to the United States via China and Japan. Interested men should apply to the Army Recruiting Station or local recruiting teams in Utah Utah and Nevada Wyoming. Meanwhile local school events noted with fourth graders entertaining parents and staff with Pioneer program and a business trip to Parowan.
The Relief Society will celebrate the annual day with both wards on Tuesday March 7th in the recreation hall. The program includes a noon theater feature for married people starting at 2 p.m. An evening entertainment begins at 6 o'clock, and each lady is asked to contribute 15 cents to help cover expenses. Visitors are welcome.
Cattle in the valley over eight months old will be tested for contagious abortion next week. State and federal agencies with the local cattlemen's association enforce the test. If an animal tests positive the owner receives 25 dollars and 30 days to dispose of it. The process is free with no charges to owners.
The county Democratic committee announces a reorganization meeting to convene Saturday night at 1:30 at the Third Ward Church in Cedar City. Officers to be elected include county chairman and vice chair, associate chairwomen and vice chairwomen, secretary, and treasurer, with voting by district chairmen and associate chairwomen plus five at large committeemen. Local figures Clinton Milne is eyed for re-election but will not run.
Utah Governor proclaims March 30 as Arbor Day, moving the observance earlier per horticulturist guidance. The proclamation cites national custom and urges citizens to plant trees and beautify surroundings, with schools and groups encouraged to observe at home or in organized events.

Mr Walter Lunt Iron County director and Tay J Carr executive secretary of the Associated Civic clubs paused in town on their way from Batty hake City. Arnold Orton of Enterprise stayed a couple days. Ivon Decker showed a new Lafayette car during the week.
Alladin Theatre presents Major Lawr's Amateur Hour next Friday and Saturday night with a live talent show. Featured acts include John Jewel, Norman and Andrew Walelacs, Rosa, Peter Garcia, Porto Raya, and many more musical performances. an all star cast with Preston Foater and Dorothy Wilson also listed.
The Parowan Republican club will host a debate at the TERE school auditorium next Thursday at 7:30 PM. Two B A C students will argue whether Congress should have power to override a Supreme Court decision. Public and high school invited.
The Bali squad, tied for second in the league, is invited to a Lions Club luncheon on Monday evening March 20, 70. L. J. Adama extended the invitation after the club meeting at Uefunchean. Coach Orelant Ward reported on the Southern Nevada tournament he officiated last week. Mary Macfarlane and Florence Maradon provided music.
Parowan High School won the 2nd league game 46 to 26 over B A G. Miller led Parowan with 17 points while Gurr and Mickelson stood out. Ivant and Smith played well for the B A G, with Fourers foul trouble impacting the lineup. Whiting’s team remains in contention for second place as Gixte clinches the division with two recent decisive wins over Hurricane.
Iron County Board of Education approves a seven percent raise for next year bringing salaries closer to prior levels after reductions during lean years. They plan to hire two more teachers to return first and second grades to full day instruction and a librarian for the junior high library. A brick bus garage with post‑service labor is authorized, and a coordinator will be hired to follow dropouts in cooperation with the west contract at Utah Agricultural College. Field trips include Salt Lake City conference for administrators.
