Local readers urge stricter town speed control to protect children during peak hours. Proposals include a highway sign near the town to warn drivers and reduce violations. Parowan announces kindergarten registration will be held Monday March 23 in the elementary school building. Mrs Fae N Henson and Mrs Allee Barton will supervise with forms. eligible children are those starting first grade in September. Birth certificates must be brought. proof of the child’s age not required at registration.
A Cedar City youth who ran away was picked up by local police after riding to Parown and seeing a local movie. Night watchman Ray Bentley questioned him and helped locate his parents as operators confirmed his identity, ending a several hour search.
Parowan City Council explains street light policy amid complaints about mid block outages. They present data on rising electricity use since 1945, note full time lighting consumes power, and describe mapping of lights to save energy while keeping streets well lit. The council invites residents to report hazardous conditions for potential additional lighting.

Seagull high school students joined 15 entrants at the Solo and Ensemble Music Festival in Kanah. The larger Region Six event moved to St George due to local building plans, with the 1 44 festival slated to return to the local high school.
A group of girls from the Para ward in the Konah stake, led by Mrs. Joan Thivenport, will travel by private cars to the St. George Temple this Saturday afternoon for a non baptimal visit. They depart Parowanny at 10 am, with mothers invited to join if transport can be arranged.
Parowan High School Band plans travel to Cedarity on March 20 to present an exchange program at the high school there. The visit showcases the hometown ensemble and its school’s musical partnership across district lines.
Inductee Llgud A Mortensen, son of Mr and Mrs John Mortensen, honored at a Second Ward chapel event organized by the Second Ward Bishopric. A male quartet performed with Mary Lymin at piano, Eldon Smith delivering remarks, and John H Pendleton of the Bishopric giving brief remarks before Mortensen left Wednesday for Fort Touglis Induction Center for immediate Selective Service induction.
The Third Ward schedules another food sale to raise funds for the new church recreation hall and building addition. All residents are asked to contribute food items for the event at Mitchell's Gift & Appliance Store after 9:30 am.
A capacity crowd attended Papawan High School’s junior prom staged three weeks early due to scheduling needs. The theme Orchids In the Moonlight featured tropical decorations, hanging moss, and flowering orchid vines, with moss banks and pool-like color schemes enhancing the hall.
Parowan rides a 13 9 record into the Round Robin with Cedar City and Hinckley Hurricane games this Friday and Saturday. Cedar, Hurricane, Hinckley, and Parowan clash in a two day event with potential matchups to decide a trip to Provo. A large group of local residents enjoyed a landscaping and gardening lecture Monday evening under the Community Improvement Committee. Speakers Fred Aueburger and Dorothea Newbold discussed planning, cleanliness, and orderliness, stressing farm improvements and beautification.
Alan Matheson son of former Parowan residents earns Phi Beta Kappa at the University of Utah where he is a senior with an A average. He also joined Phi Kappa Phi and Owl and Key, serves as president of Sinn social fraternity, and will enter the armed forces after graduation in June. He is a grandson of Mr Luella R. Adame and the late David Matheson.
