Parowan report shows bond sales since Feb 18 at only $1,000 as residents and schools mobilize for the Fourth War Loan. Community efforts, school chaperones, and local volunteers foster participation while Postmaster Ivan Decker notes campaigns and a planned Jeep naming prize amid wartime fundraising.
The Westward M. LA program last Tuesday offered a study of Ludwig von Beethoven life. Ethel Bayles narrated the life story while Aud rey Rowley Betty Miller performed musical numbers and Morris Shirley Rowley sang a song. Corporal Boyd Morris home on Army furlough spoke, and Mutual officers urged wearing more about the organization to tune in on ESUB next Sunday at 7:59 p.m.
Taxpayers have about ten days to file 1943 returns with the Collector of Internal Revenue. A deputy collector will be at the Court House on Monday March 6 from 8:30 AM to 6:30 PM to offer free advice. Anyone earning $500 or more in 1943 must file. spouses with over $624 individually or $1,200 combined must file. those who paid or owed taxes on 1942 income must also file.
Motorists urged to endorse gasoline coupons during the week of March 6 as OPA investigators launch a nationwide check at service stations. Endorsement prevents loss or theft, aids service stations, and curbs black market activities ahead of summer demands and military needs.
Mrs Betsy Haycock announces the marriage of her son James Haycock on February 26 at Belvedere New Jersey to Minnie Lambert of Bangor Pennsylvania. They will reside in Radford Virginia where Jim works as a chemist for Hercules Powder Company. He graduated from Parawan High School and the University of Utah with strong scholarship records.
News from Army operations headquarters in England reports three local soldiers receiving Hood conduct medals. Private Ernest Ward Lowe and Private Loyd B Stubbs of the Army Quartermaster Corps, and Corporal Carl G Morris of the Medical Corps were honored at station hospital ceremonies with British civilian attendance.
CPL Boyd R Morris son of Mr and Mrs Ray Morris and Miss Wanda Todd daughter of Mr and Mrs Mathew Todd of Ogden wed in a ceremony led by Bishop Scott Day. The couple, both Ogden High graduates, married during furlough while he serves with 3rd Tank Destroyer at Camp Bowie Texas. she worked as a clerk at Hill Field and will return there this weekend.
Mr and Mrs Wm J Lawder announce the marriage of their daughter Maxine to Ray Robison of Fillmore. The ceremony was performed by Bishop Brunson on Friday February 25 with immediate family present. After the wedding the couple traveled to Salt Lake City and Logan. Maxine, a Parowan High School graduate, has worked at Rhady’s cafe in Fillmore and will stay there with her brother Grant. Robison serves in the U S Navy, four years in service and home on leave. The bride’s family attended from here. Mrs Waldo Taylor left Wednesday for Provo to visit relatives.
Lollin D. Orton chairs the Red Cross drive with Parowan announcing final arrangements and a kickoff next Monday morning. Canvassers meet at Taylors Cafe for breakfast, instructions, and supplies before beginning door to door collection to raise 4250 by April 1, a total Parowan has pledged to support fully.
Funeral services were held in Paragonah for Alfred Willard Lund who died Saturday in Las Vegas from pneumonia after a hernia operation. He lived with his daughter and son-in-law Owen Cox. Lund served in the LDS Church and held many roles including YMLA president and Paragonah school superintendent. Surviving are two sons, Willard and Terry Lund, and two daughters, Roxie McAllister and Grace.
At the Parwan Reservoir Co annual meeting stockholders voted to drill a test well in Parowan Canyon at the head of the hydro electric pipeline to augment water supply for city and reservoir. The board is authorized to tax stock to cover costs and run a power line if needed, with $3,000 estimated total and costs shared 73 to 25 percent between the reservoir and Parowan City. A new board was elected with W Leonard Evans, Robert Fowler, E Ray Lyman, Chester Stubbs, Arlo Holyoak, Pall Benson, Wm J Gurr, John W Bentley, Harvey Adams. Mayor W Scot Mitchell as Parowan City representative. Ph Bensho was named president, Anna Holyoak vice president, HL Richards secretary and treasurer.
Mrs. LaMont Theroes of East Ward M I A chaired Tuesday's meeting selecting casts for three one act plays to be presented as a budget program on March 20 at Westward recreation hall under Mrs. Thornock. The plays include Dark Wind Blow Bugle Blow and When Shakespearest Ladies Meet with casts featuring Vicky Mortensen Gordon Whitney Dina Watts Averil Gregan Norma Smith and others. Also notes high school report cards will be mailed next Tuesday for parental review as the final sending of cards this year.
In Salt Lake City with his daughter, Mr. Lund was a member of the 34th ward where the bishop and ward members spoke warmly, sending sympathies to Cox of Laa Veyans, two sisters Annie M. Topham of Paragonah and Nellie Darton of Murray, and 18 grandchildren.
