School Board Rejecs Coal Bids and Plans Local Purchases
The Iron County School Board rejected all coal bids for next year due to noncompliance with the published call and will likely buy locally if needed. A health contract would cost $1050 this year, higher than last year’s $624, and budgets cannot be increased. Resignation of Alta Burton was accepted and Mary Flett transferred to Paragonah. The Newcastle vacancy remains open. The board authorized purchasing land near Levy Ranch to move the Beryl schoolhouse. An Iron and Beaver county plan for elementary supervision was approved to share a supervisor and halve costs, pending acceptance by Bliss Margaret Wilvers who has recovered and is offered the post.
