Plans for a sesquicentennial Independence Day observance are underway with committees named and active. A 9:30 parade, 11 a.m. public meeting, 2 p.m. children's dance, sports, and an evening dance are planned, with events adjusted since July 4 falls on Sunday.

East Ward Relief to Hold Last Program
The East Ward Relief Society’s final meeting of the season is set for next Wednesday, June 30, with a special program and colial tied to the regular session. Lesson topic is Intellectual Problems of Childhood and features Miss Phyllis Orton solo Neta Thornton reading and Mrs Glenna Ward piano selection. All ladies of the ward are invited. Arthur Brown, convicted last term as a persistent violator of liquor laws, under $756 bond pending appeal, is reported to have skipped recently. Leonard Green and Silney served as bondsmen for 375, half of which was a cash bond. Rock Hamblin was fined 100 in Justice Rollo’s Cedar City court for intoxication earlier this week per city officers.

Blue Lantern Era Dance Pavilion Rising Here
A new open air dance pavilion named Blue Lantern is under construction south of Green & Green’s, planned to open next week likely Tuesday evening. Measuring 60 by 60 feet with vehicle flooring and metal walls, it will be blue and lit with blue lanterns, hosting dances twice weekly with a lunch stand nearby. Mr Sunday, origin Indiana, is erecting it after lease concerns prompted relocation from the library area.

Bootlegger Dewey Jensen Faces Cedar County Hearing
A Cedar Valley raid during a Cedar precinct Police convention led to the arrest of Dewey Jensen, accused bootlegger. Officers found a large jug labeled white mule, small bottles, and corks at his Cedar Valley homestead. Jensen’s hearing is set before Justice Leigh tonight.

An automobile crash near Mule Point beyond Buckhorn killed a female tourist, whose name could not be learned. She was with a man and several young children, one two years old, when their car tipped and struck a van. She died shortly after at Parowan.
