Plans for a sesquicentennial Independence Day observance are underway with committees named and active. A 9:30 parade, 11 a.m. public meeting, 2 p.m. children's dance, sports, and an evening dance are planned, with events adjusted since July 4 falls on Sunday.
The East Ward Relief Society’s final meeting of the season is set for next Wednesday, June 30, with a special program and colial tied to the regular session. Lesson topic is Intellectual Problems of Childhood and features Miss Phyllis Orton solo Neta Thornton reading and Mrs Glenna Ward piano selection. All ladies of the ward are invited. Arthur Brown, convicted last term as a persistent violator of liquor laws, under $756 bond pending appeal, is reported to have skipped recently. Leonard Green and Silney served as bondsmen for 375, half of which was a cash bond. Rock Hamblin was fined 100 in Justice Rollo’s Cedar City court for intoxication earlier this week per city officers.
The Fourth of July committee offers the public a chance to name its Goddess of Liberty, Uncle Sam, and Utah for this year’s celebration. Five cent votes are placed in stores for listed candidates to raise funds for kiddie sports.
Rambouillet Association officers confirmed September 14 15 16 as the dates for the Annual Rambouillet Show and Sale. They named committees with John W. Bentley chairing the General Committee and Joseph B. Dalton chairing the Finance Committee among others.
A new open air dance pavilion named Blue Lantern is under construction south of Green & Green’s, planned to open next week likely Tuesday evening. Measuring 60 by 60 feet with vehicle flooring and metal walls, it will be blue and lit with blue lanterns, hosting dances twice weekly with a lunch stand nearby. Mr Sunday, origin Indiana, is erecting it after lease concerns prompted relocation from the library area.
The advance manager of the California Players, billed to perform next week, was born in our city. Wilford A Jensen, son of Taylor Jensen, once a local settler, left forty years ago and now leads a show from a Walters and California Companies fusion. The California Players tour ends in Cedar City after an all winter Southern California run.
A Cedar Valley raid during a Cedar precinct Police convention led to the arrest of Dewey Jensen, accused bootlegger. Officers found a large jug labeled white mule, small bottles, and corks at his Cedar Valley homestead. Jensen’s hearing is set before Justice Leigh tonight.
The Clerk's office issued licenses this week to Don S58 Behunin of Richfield and Leona Stapley of Cedar City and to Clarence FR Drake of Los Angeles and Floy N Adams of San Diara.
Mr Edward W Ward left on Saturday of last week to be married today in the Salt Lake Temple to Miss LaPrice Sabin former teacher in the Parowanh and Paragonah Schools whose home is in Salem Utah Following the marriage today a big reception is prepared for them tomorrow at Salem Where they intend making their home we havent learned With their list of friends here and elsewhere the Times joins in extending congratulations and all good wishes for their future happiness.
An automobile crash near Mule Point beyond Buckhorn killed a female tourist, whose name could not be learned. She was with a man and several young children, one two years old, when their car tipped and struck a van. She died shortly after at Parowan.

Four young men Ronald Afortensen Harold Rowtery Alden Burt and Archie Gilger were charged with disturbing the peace after firing at officers following prior warnings Mortensen Burt and Gilett pled not guilty Justice Morris issued a stay for Mortensen and Burt’s trial is scheduled after the defendant returns from a training camp Mrs Mitchell Bengon recently visited Richheld and returned home with Mr and Mrs John H W Gurr.
The District Court convened here Tuesday at 2 for the June term likely to run until July 4. Judge Burton presides and aims to clear the calendar. Jurors may be called Saturday. pleas expected in criminal civil and probate matters. Several cases dismissed or continued. multiple pleas anticipated before Saturday morning.
A farewell social honoring Mrs Minnie Bird and her family was hosted by Mrs J Clayton Atichell. Mrs Bird, long involved with the M. B A and Young Ladies groups, shared in a pleasant afternoon with refreshments. Present offered wishes for her future success as she and her husband prepare to move to Jeuy ing Parowsan.
