Survey to gauge fish and game impact on Utah economy

The University of Utah and the Fish and Game Commission will launch a statewide survey of hunting and fishing expenditures to gauge their economic importance. Over 1,000 sportsmen will be interviewed to map spending, popular areas, and activities aiding wildlife resource management.

Four Groups Meet for Club Activities and Food

The Cocketts held their second meeting at Norma Orton s home where plans for the year were decided and cheese salad sandwich filling was made. The Stitching Gals met at Arleny Holyoth s home to work on aprons and held a pot luck sleeping out on June six. The Clover Club Boys gathered at Bernell Evans s home to discuss projects and share refreshments with several members listed. Junior Kitchen Maids met at their teacher s home and prepared a cream soup menu. Winon Holyoak hosted the group on June, with her report noting the gathering.

Page Family Visit Ends as Tucson Pair Return Home

Mr. and Mrs. Garn Page and family of Tucson were guests of the John Page family for two weeks. They left for home Saturday with Vernetta Page accompanying them to Tucson to seek employment.

Mr and Mrs Sidney Pritchard celebrate the arrival of a new grandson born May 30 in Salt Lake City.

Recreation Program Gets Underway in Parowan

Parowan City recreation director Richard Jones announces a summer program with weekly activity schedules to run in the Times and a glass-case posting. Little League and Pony League baseball are underway, swimming sessions for ages 8 to 15, playgrounds Thursdays, tennis Mondays, and nightly gym activities. Bus fares apply for swimmers, lights are planned for the ball diamond, and future schedules include softball and horseshoes. Mrs Ida King supervised dancers in Salt Lake and Miss Susan Benson wedding events noted with Jerald A Nelson set for June 23.

Mrs Lois Fowler underwent major surgery Monday at Iron Co Hospital. Children stay with grandmother Mrs R L Halterman while mother recovers. Mr and Mrs Glen Stewart of Cedar Rapids Town have visited relatives here for a week. Mrs Stewart formerly Joan Adams Mrs Augusta Dalton visiting since Memorial Day accompanied the Stewarts as far as Provo to visit Bruce Adams and Grant Hansen.

Plans for Parowan July 4th celebration outlined

Parowan prepares for its Fourth of July festivities with a flag casing by Boy Scouts, a morning salute led by Lyle Evans, and a nine o'clock parade backed by the Chamber of Commerce. Afterward a public meeting at the Third Ward Chapel features American Legion and Mutual Improvement Association leadership. In the afternoon Red Hill Wranglers host a race meet and horse show, junior sports at five, a children’s dance, a Lions Club ham shoot, and a final evening dance on the high school tennis court.

Road Show Group Praise at MIA Conference

In Salt Lake City the Parowan MIA group received high praise for its road show at the L D S MILA Conference. Kingsbury Hall and the Capitol Theatre hosted two performances each with thirty five youths from the Parowan Third Ward led by Mrs Joyce Hamilton of Provo. Director Shirley Evans oversaw the troupe with accompanist Mrs Annie Jones and supervisors Mary Alice Grafferta Burton Hulda Hulet Garth Whitney and Mr and Mrs Ted Burton.

Edmund Stevens Observes Eighty-Eighth Birthday in Salt Lake City

Edmund Stevens celebrated his eighty eighth birthday on June 19 at the home of his daughter Mrs Jed Riding in Salt Lake City. Born June 19 1868 in Parewan he has lived here most of his life and spent some years with his daughter. A former LDS Church missionary in England he currently serves as high priest and is the father of nine children.
