Work Progress For Desert Church Construction Gains Pace

Concrete work on the foundation nears completion as the Bishop and local officials visit the site. The stone facing uses varied colors and rocks sourced from desert areas near Buckhorn and across Arizona. Parowan Radio Night Highlights July 9 on KSUB Cedar City

Parowan hosts a radio night on KSUB Cedar City next Thursday July 9 featuring Royal people numbers. Scheduled acts include Duet Mr and Mrs Win M Dalton and vocal solos, Elmo Horton saxophone, and a Virginia Mortensen talk. BLA sponsors the weekly program to showcase students and alumni of the school. Other towns in Southern Utah also broadcast under Calleges sponsorship. Utah's Low Liquor Use and Daggett County's Wettest Status

A Salt Lake Times report by Jennings Pailipa based on Telegram articles shows Utah in 1936 had liquor consumption well below the national average and far under the 16 monopoly states. Daggett County emerges as the wettest in the state with per capita expenditure of $11.41 and total sales of $4,567, while Rich County is the driest at $4.62 per person and $4,801 in annual purchases. Rich and Daggett reflect wide county disparities amid cross-border sales involving Wyoming transients. Salt Lake and Iron counties also figure prominently in per capita figures, with Cedar City noted as a gateway to Southern Utah parks.

Parowan Girl Cedar Hoy Insured In Auto Accident

Misa Irene Dalton of Parowan and Arthur Dix of Cedar City were injured when their car leaving Yarowall Canyon overturned after a tire blew out. Irene suffered a broken toe and bruises, Dix had scalp lacerations and a badly bruised arm. They traveled to Salt Lake City to visit relatives and will bring Artell back after visiting Thelma and a family in Bountiful.

Muck County sold a large block of lands in Iran county at the July meeting for delinquent taxes. Purchases mostly by original landowners, with payments including taxes interest and costs. several parcels traded on installment. Seven Injured In Car Collision South Of Here

Seven persons were taken to the county hospital after a wreck on the highway three miles southwest of here. A Chrysler sedan driven by Dean Forsyth of Newcastle collided with a Buick, sending one car to the junk heap and the other to the repair shop. The highway was blocked as victims were aided, with details incomplete and no serious fatalities yet confirmed.

Green couple to teach first aid classes at local school

Dr and Mrs James Green, former residents now in Los Angeles, are due today to offer two morning first aid courses starting Monday the 26th. Participants over seventeen may enroll, with classes to be held in the schoolhouse if arrangements are made. further details will follow on arrival.

Parowan Warm spell tops nearby towns in week of heat

Parowan residents enjoyed warm weather with the Skal guard weather station recording 93 degrees on Tuesday, 96 on Wednesday and Thursday. Clouds dampened peak readings while nearby towns like St George and Salt Lake City reported higher temperatures. Local meteorologist Akongaard notes Parowan has seen 110 degree days in past summers, including a 40 110 degree spell several years ago.

Adult Art Class Discontinued For Summer Break

Mrs Larreal Ward announces the Adult Art Class will be paused for a month as she attends a summer school course at the University of Utah. She leaves this week and plans to return August 20 when the session ends. Classes resume Monday after the break.

Mrs M L Skolgaard underwent a first week operation at St George hospital for a fast developing tumor growth, losing one breast in a full removal, and her condition is improving with the doctor confident the source of trouble is eliminated.

A West Ward Genealogical Society was organized after a Wednesday meeting at Mrs. Neva Topham's home. Ubese named officers include Vilate Crawford as president and Audrey Miller as secretary, with a plan to mirror the Senior Genealogical Society and attract more members to a worthy, enjoyable pursuit.

Celebrations at Dixie National Forest Camps

Festivities for the Twenty Fourth of July are planned across Dixie National Forest camps. Parowan Vermilion Castle St George and Washington County will gather at Pine Valley camp with about 2000 attendees Kane County will celebrate at Duck Creek. Panguitch lake celebrations may also occur. Morning program will use Forest Service broadcasting to reach attendees with shade and music. Afternoon will feature baseball and sports for youths and families with transportation available for a nominal fee.

Recreation program for coming week on library lawn

A children's story time is planned this Sunday from 4 to 5 at the library lawn by Mrs Helen Dalton. Parents are reminded to bring children to the old Relief Hall playground on Wednesday and Friday afternoons from 1 to 4 o clock. Softball for adult ladies takes place Wednesday and Saturday at 6 o clock. For juniors, boys and girls meet on Monday and Thursday at 5 o'clock on the school square.

Iron County receives 18108.05 from AAA conservation program

Farmers across Utah were paid over one million dollars by the Agricultural Adjustment Administration for conservation program participation in the past year, per TeRay C. Punk state AAA secretary. Thirty Day Sentence for Peace Disturbance

Martin Gamble and Oakland Miniard, members of the Jara CCC ramp, were sentenced to 20 days in county jail by Precinct Justice Alex H Iloilo after a complaint by Mrs Cleo Latger Bers alleged wilful and malicious disturbance of the peace. The defendants pled guilty to the charge as Willard and Mrs Bees were mentioned in the street incident.
