A local column urges parents to improve children’s outdoor play with simple homemade gear. It cites plans from Otter Homes and Gardens and Mayor Ivan Decker, detailing a garden swing and plant circle swing crafted from scrap lumber, wagon wheels, and old hardware.
Parowan will celebrate the twenty fourth of July at Five All canyon camp with a public meeting at 11 a.m. lunch at 1 p.m. and sports at 2 p.m. Transportation will be provided for those needing a ride, meeting at the Library at 8 a.m. Attendees should bring lunch.
A reconnaissance survey of the Parowan Canyon road will start next week, covering the first four and a half miles to the forest boundary. Officials from the Bureau of Public Roads and the State Road Commission expect possible construction soon and a CCC crew may be assigned to extend the road toward the Panguitch Lake Cedar Breaks road, contingent on assurances of future construction.
Local residents report rising interest in gold strikes east of town after samples from Hed Hills claims, located by EL RE Jackson and Claude Thompson. Bill Hexburn of Columbia Steel Car at Desert Mound reportedly delivered ore showing high gold content, boosting belief the ore is mill rich. Dr. Burton backs the mineral possibility as plausible. Rumors also mention two transient prospectors in Hyatta canyon with promising ore, while renewed activity spreads across the Valley and nearby areas.
Twenty four Iron County lads were drafted to join forestry work at Pine Valley camp this week, part of a 275 man push to reach 7606 planned recruits. Selections came from within the state after committee review. Angus MM Morris Harvey Adams Ivan Orton Lynn Halterman Lynn Lowe and alternate Smith Mortensen, Barton B Stapley from Paragonah with Edgar Lister as alternate. All headed for camp this morning.
Special meetings of the local F A organization were held to plan a Yellowstone trip. A start date of July 17 was set for a 10 day round trip costing 5.00 pounds plus 35.60 for food. Komer Adams reports. East ward choir members are reminded of Saturday practice at 8 30.
Representatives of the Farm and Tabor League of Kaa will hold a meeting Monday night in the Lih ea auditorium at 334 to discuss organizing activity. All are invited to attend. Thomas W. Jones of Paragonal was in Parowan last Saturday afternoon.
The Cedar Breaks area is likely to become a national monument with control shifting to the Park Service. Boundary lines and grazing reductions are nearly finalized despite opposition from local livestock groups and forest officials. If approved, the Park Service will oversee roads and campgrounds planned for the site.
A letter from Forest Supervisor Jas. Gutst to State Road Commissioners and agencies requests approval and assurance for construction of a redd at Yellow Jacket Spring inside the forest boundary, noting consortium to enable work at an early date.
The band will give a concert Sunday at 6 20 PM on the school house lawn led by Mr. Peterson. The program includes The Star Spangled Banner Martha The Parade Overture Serenade The Rose The National Emblem March A June Rose The Southland Over the Top and more. Proceeds from a future concert will fund a new drum player.

Nearby weather notes: hot, 100 degrees, light rain last week, irrigation steady.
County commissioners at their June meeting asked state authorities for 75000 in Public Works funds to repair and upgrade county roads. They proposed 10000 for Little Creek Canyon Hear Valley road and 25090 for other Cedar City area improvements, noting a required survey before Parowan Canyon work could begin.
District engineer Wm. Osborn announced the oiling of the Tarowan-laragon road about 1.25 miles north of the Courthouse will begin this week. Laige Construction Co of Fallon Nevada brings oiling equipment. officials say the firm is reputable and merchants can trust them for the job.
Frank Carlisle Mitchell, 42, died at home from Brights disease after a lingering illness. Survived by widow Phace Jane Benson Mitchell and eight children, including Maytha and Carlide. Funeral planned Saturday at 2 p.m. in local church with extended family in attendance.
