Parowan City Council Meets with Budget and Bridge Repairs

Parowan City Council held its regular July meeting with Mayor, Recorder, Treasurer and others present. They discussed water rental meters, collection duties, and proposed changes to meter readings and billing. The council planned to define duties between Recorder Matheson and Treasurer Benson and ordered street and bridge evaluations and potential rebuilds.

Clubs Meet in Beaver July 17 18

The Associated Civile Clubs of Southern Titah hold July 17 and 18 meetings in Beaver with Beaver Chamber of Commerce hosts. An executive board session at noon Saturday, general meeting at 2 40 pm, and a big evening dance precede Sunday visits to local spots guided by club members. Noon adjournment to Puffer’s Lake for fishing and recreation follows. Dr and Mrs Delos Hyatt hosted Mrs Siyatt’s father J D Wol t of St George and brother Jayr with Guy Ostensen from Lina Vegas visiting July 3.

Power Co Proposes New Pumping Rates In Parowan Valley

At a Tuesday meeting of the Parowan Valley pumpers and Southern Utah Power Co representative, a new meter based rate was explained. The plan would lower charges only if wells are partially shut off, but local pumpers argued the basin is not suited for such a scheme and a committee was formed to push a more favorable rate.

Marriage Licenses Issued By County Clerk This Week

The County Clerk issued marriage licenses to Grant Houchen aged 23 of Cedar City and Elizabeth West 18 of Payson. Elmo Ward Mortensen 24 of Ontario California and Laura Pearl Bentley 25 of Parowan were also licensed. Mr A F Rose rebirned with brief business trip and visit to Southern California. Mr Tove partners with Frank Santa in a large scale pea venture in the valley. Santa recently moved his family from California to summer here, residing at the Ed Ward residence.

Cedar To Host Utah Woolgrowers Convention in Cedar City

Popular Couple Marry at Home of Bride

A quiet Tuesday evening wedding at the bride's home united Elmo Mortensen formerly of Parowan and Milas Pearl Stantley of the city. The ceremony was led by Bishop Will L. Adams with close female relatives present. A reception followed at the home with about 100 guests. Family and friends assisted in hosting and music was provided by Della Marsden and others. The groom is the son of Mrs. Jos E Mortensen and a Cedar City graduate now working in California. The bride, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John W. Beasley, is a Meh school graduate and former local teacher. The couple toured Southern Utah National Parks before moving to California.

Clark Leases New Shell Service Station

Saunders Clark takes over the new Shell Service Station at the corner of Maih and South Street. Built this spring by Shell agent Ss. T. Nelson, the modern station features an enclosed lift, a pressure grease gun, and a Shell oil line for every car part, with Goodyear tires and repair equipment. The site will include parkable grounds in front and will be promoted as a key motorist hub in the region.

Nation's Birthday Observed Quietly in Town

July 4 celebration passed quietly with many townspeople joining relatives and friends. Floats were modest but well decorated. prizes went to the Daughters of the Pioneers and Gun and Hed Club. A flag making by young girls and Veron Decker’s oration stood out amid a full day of program events, softball, band concert, and a well attended dance.

Dalton Family Leaves City for Delta Home

Mr and Mrs Edward M Dalton and family move to Delta to establish a new home. Ed Dalton, longtime proprietor of the City Barber Shop, will operate a shop in Millard County. John Mortensen transported the furniture and belongings, with Charles F Bentley taking over the existing garage shop under management.

Recreation Program for Week of July 11th to 17th

Weekly schedule lists events at the Library Lawn with a story hour on Sunday by Dita Luella. If rain, indoors. Monday and Thursday 6 p.m. Soltball for ages 12 to 18 males and females. Wednesday and Friday playground for ages 1 to 12 from 1 to 6 p.m. at old Re Net Wall. Wednesday and Saturday 6 to 8 p.m. softball for adult ladies.

Road Commission Plans Canyon Road Repairs

Road officials told Iron County leaders that Canyon Road leading to Cedar Breaks will be substantially improved this season. They promised early survey work on the Parowan main street bridge curve to cut accidents and discussed widening the bridge north of Cedar City and other Cedar County projects.
