Parowan City Council Sets 1971 Tax Levy and Official Changes

Parowan City Council held a regular session approving the Sexton’s semiannual report and cemetery water needs, tabling a license reduction for J L Lowder Jr. The Fourth of July budget and receipts were reviewed with thanks to organizers. George D Morris was named Justice of the Peace replacing William Marsden, and an attorney was planned to cover the Attorney’s office for six months. The 1971 city levy was set at 94 mills, two mills below two years prior.

Independence Day Celebration Highlights and Local Notes

A detailed Parowan Independance Day program featured a parade with several fine floats earning prize money for Living Flag and Goddess of Liberty. A 10 o'clock program included speeches by Goddess of Liberty Uncle Sam and Utah, plus choral music and readings. The day included horse events, a potato race won by Clarence Dalton, and a successful dance. Local residents returned from Salt Lake City trips, weddings and family news filled the page, while new cement walks and a proposed iron fence were noted for the Public Library frontage and Lemmon Hotel grounds.
