Parowan Store Reopens Under Local Credit Group

The Parowan M. and M Q store, recently controlled by the Credit Men’s Association, will reopen for business Friday. Local citizens tied to Rep. Wilford Day arranged the negotiations and will soon form a board of directors. Willis Johnson will supervise operations while the new group finalizes the company name. An additional notice from Willis, superintendent of the new association, appears elsewhere.

Parents and Teachers Meeting Postponed to February 3

The parents and teachers meeting scheduled for Thursday has been postponed one week. It will be held in the school auditorium Thursday February 3 with Dr. M. J. Macfarlane of Cedar City speaking on Cooperation of parents, teachers and board members.

Break Even Again as Four Residents Cancel Subscriptions

Four residents in the city canceled their Times subscriptions this week due to lack of funds. The paper then received exactly four new subscriptions during the same day, restoring the break even point for the subscription end of the business.

P H S Boys Lose to St George in Fast 35 to 26 Game

P H S basketball team traveled to St George last Friday and fell 35 to 26. The first half ended 19 to 13 in favor of P H S, but St George surged ahead after the break. Two players were reportedly exhausted at the end, though the squad plans a win next Friday at Beaver against the Murdock quintet.

Sunday Services Aid Europe Sufferers at Tabernacle

A large crowd attended the Sunday afternoon meeting at the tabernacle called by the First Presidency to aid European sufferers. Many delivered donations at the chapel door or to collectors conducting a house to house canvass. Elder S A Matheson spoke on making small sacrifices per the Gospel.

Day Buay introduces first Utah lower house appropriation bill

Representative Day offers House Bill No 8 for a 20090 state general fund appropriation to conduct experiments in sinking wells for agricultural water on arid Utah lands. Work under Utah Agricultural College experiment station may cooperate with the federal government or other agencies. An administration measure would create a state dairy and food bureau under the state board of health with the secretary serving as dairy and food commissioner and traveling expenses covered.

Cedar Notes Round-Up and Social Highlights At B A C

The Farmers and Housewifes Round-Up at the B A C drew a large crowd and praise for the sessions. Birthday gatherings honored William Webster age 86 and Charles Heyborne age 74. Social events included a chain dance in the school auditorium with aprons and overalls attire and prizes for best waltzers. Funeral services were held for Mina Tipton Ahlstrom, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Tipton Ahlstrom, who had health struggles. Additional items note a Commercial Club Character Ball next Friday and a B A C basketball win over Murdock Academy at Beaver. Cathie Hunter assists at Cedar Drug Store and J A Kopp traveled to Salt Lake for business. Webster Leigh left for a mission.
