Parowan City Council Receives Routine Business At Special Session
At a Monday night special meeting Parowan City Council discussed routine items. Mayor Howard Joseph noted city attorney R L Gardner found no incompatibility between City Treasurer and Justice of the Peace roles, allowing A G Merkley to become permanent Justice of the Peace on February 1 at 20 dollars monthly. W Scott Mitchell was named City Building Inspector. The council invited applications for a hydro electric plant operator trainee with a 270 dollar monthly starting salary and a two year city employment commitment after training. Applications due February 22. Building inspector salary fixed at 15 dollars monthly with all permit and inspection fees now collected by the city.

New Officers Named At Annual Gun and Rod Club Elections
Parowan Gun and Rod Club members elected officers for 1960 led by President Barnarr Stubbs who had previously held the post. Sherwin Benson was named vice president with John S. Dalton treasurer and Clayton Tullis secretary. Board members are Warren Pendleton Earl Bunn and Ted Burton. A rabbit hunt for club members is planned for Saturday afternoon January 2 meeting south of Pendleton's Shoe Service at noon. Shells can be bought at Parowan Market or Fentons with a member discount. only shotguns are allowed.

Forest Supervisor Howard Folger reports that Dixie National Forest hosted about 199 647 visitors in 1959, up 23 percent from 1958. Total developed camp and picnic area use rose to 199 647 in 1959 from 162 000 in 1958, with continued outdoor recreation growth and about 100 000 spent on improvements under Operation Outdoors from 1957 to 1959, plus 108 family camp units built and 63 added.

Last Rites Held For Lloyde Ward At Cedar City
Funeral services were held in Cedar City for Lloyd Clark Ward 54 formerly of Parowan who died after a long illness. Born April 9 1905 in Parowan to John Melvin and Dorothy Clark Ward he married Ruth Knell on June 28 1933 in St George later solemnized in the St George LDS Temple. Survivors include his widow two daughters Doroth y Hill and Wendy Ward two brothers Rex C Ward and M Howard Ward and one grandchild. Burial was in Parowan City Cemetery.

Funeral Services Held Saturday For Mrs Nellie Clark
Funeral services for Mrs. Nellie McAllister Clark were held Saturday afternoon in the Third Ward Chapel. She died last Wednesday after surgery. Bishop Howard M. Adams directed the service with opening remarks. Multiple prayer leaders and a mixed quartet provided music, including Look Look To The Comforter and Lead Me Gently Home. Pallbearers included McAllister and Clark family members. Interment followed at Parowan City Cemetery.
