County Road and road program updates discussed at meeting

Commissioners heard delegations and named a county road head to oversee the road program and maintenance. A plan to review and adjust monthly work with the supervisor was approved. Proposals included improving Bear Valley access, resurfacing a highway segment, and expanding road construction with state cooperation.

West ward announces that the conference will be held Sunday afternoon in the ward chapel at 3 p m. Stake Presidency will be present and reports on two activities will be given. All members are urged to attend. Westward Mutual Improvement Association says the next meeting is moved to Tuesday evening at the new time.

Parowan Red Cross Roll Call Head Named

Latlin D. Orton, manager of the Utah Service Station, is named chairman of the 1944 Red Cross Roll Call in Parowan, with Ned Sargent heading countywide drive. The county quota is $7,000 and Parowan and Paragonah are allotted $1,250 of that. Orton works on plans to push Parowan over the top.

Service Held Wednesday For Pvt Carl B Bayles

Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon in the West ward chapel for Private Carl B Bayles who died Thursday at Camp Barkeley Texas from meningitis. The service featured mixed choirs, a solo, and tributes from Paragonah and St. George. burial followed in the Paragonah cemetery with burial rites by Sergeant LeRoy Adams. Correction issued: the wife’s parents are Mr and Mrs Willard Lund of Paragonah, not Merrill Lund.

West Ward MJ A. Play Presented Thursday Night

The West ward recreation association presented its annual play Last evening a ward budget number in the West ward recreation hall. The comedy drama Behind the News in three acts was directed by May Burt and Morris Rowley and pleased the large audience. The cast included Ralph Bayles Ralph Orten George Rowley Betty Miller Carey Wer Bessie Sial Termanj Atlo Holyouk and Lynn Mortensen.

Omission on coal price line creates bulk vs small lot rule

Southwick, who has spent two days issuing motor vehicle licenses, will return Tuesday February 2%, from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. to complete license plate sales in this county area. Fresh Price Ceilings Set For Fruits and Veggies

The state wide price ceilings for fresh fruits and vegetables go into effect Thursday February 17 announced by the OPA after meetings with wholesalers and retailers. Zones will keep equal prices to balance profits, with revised two week updates. Lettuce, carrots, bananas and apples highlighted at reduced ceiling prices to aid consumers under war price control.

Bombers Crash Takes Second Cedar Aviator

A mid air collision between two bombers at Ardmore Oklahoma last Saturday killed a Cedar City aviator. Robert N Bulloch son of Mr and Mrs Peter Bulloch was a BAT bomber pilot and only one crew member remains unaccounted. Arrangements for the funeral will be made on the arrival of Mrs Bulloch. Bulloch born January 14 1919 in Cedar City attended Cedar City schools and the B A C He joined the Army Air Corps in August 1942 and earned his wings November 3 1943 at Ellington Field Texas. He was set to graduate from the Ardmore combat school February 27 and is survived by his wife and parents a brother at Camp Adair Oregon three sisters and a grandmother of Cedar City.

Record crowds attend Psrowan Stake conference sessions

A large quarterly conference of the Psrowan Stake drew record crowds at three general sessions and the Priesthood meeting. Bishop LeGrand Richards spoke on gospel principles, praised youth attendance, and highlighted plans for a Primary Children’s Hospital with a designated site and funding.

Auxiliary Seeks Obsolete Phonograph Records Drive

Mrs Edna S Hateh of the American Legion Auxiliary asks for old phonograph records to be collected in a drive starting Saturday February 26. Parowan Reaches Quota In War Bond Drive

Parowan's Fourth War Loan Drive over the top with individual bond sales totaling three thousand five hundred twenty five dollars. Yankee Singers and Victory chorus concert helped, and Marlo Topham led the effort along with the Jeep drive for the school. Final Morgenthau report due March 2 with hopes of improvement through February 29.

AAA to Cooperate in Post War Survey

The Agricultural Adjustment Agency will cooperate with the Committee of Economic Development in a March survey of postwar farm employment and improvements. AAA agents will display CED farms at farm plan meetings and relay data to CED State Headquarters. County agents will assist farmers in completing forms and planning postwar labor needs. The CE D estimates needing ten million more jobs after the war than in 1940.
