Three personnel changes were approved by the city council at the Monday meeting. Orville Isom will replace Durham Morris as city attorney, Howard Rasmussen will replace the justice of the peace, and a new building inspector was appointed. Final rites.
Funeral services were held in Provo on Wednesday for Ambrose Paramore a 65 year old former Parowan resident who died in the Veterans Hospital Sunday morning of pneumonia following surgery. He was born September 25 1890 in Parowan son of John K and Roxy Marsden Paramore. He attended school in Parowan and at BYU and served in the Army Quartermaster Corps in World War One. He engaged in livestock and farming until retirement in 1943. He married Larna Timmons in Pioche Nevada on June 12 1924. The couple lived in Santa Ana California before moving to Provo in 1952. Their adopted son John A was killed in a car crash about a year ago. He was a member of Parowan Post American Legion Utah Woolgrowers Association and the LDS Church. Survivors include his widow, a brother Frank of Yermo California, and a sister Mrs Norah Reynolds of Springville. Burial was in Provo Cemetery with full military honors under Dean Mendenhall Post 13 American Legion.
National Wildlife Week will be observed March 18 to 24 with the theme Ent Endangered Wildlife. Walt Nisner of the National Wildlife Federation headlines the observance, promoting endangered species. Utah Wildlife Federation and clubs sponsor the program with Salt Lake sportsman Bill McCracken as chairman.
The Parowan School presents a three act comedy Let Me Grow Up directed by Mrs. Jean Hendrickson. The performance occurs Wednesday night in the school auditorium with admission open to the public.
Stake leadership meeting for the Parowen Stake is set for Thursday Feb 22 in the Pirsti Second Ward. A social reanest is being roared for musical directors to attend. The Leadership meetings, held last Monday in the month, have shifted to Thursday due to conflicts with other activities.
Parowan beat Delta 57 to 26 as all Rams played solidly and led 31-16 at halftime. Whitney scored 11, Simkins 10, Mitchell 9 with starters resting in the third quarter and subs stepping up. Upcoming tough game at Millard could clinch a State Mas tournament spot. Millard Division standings show Parowan 6–0 atop, Beaver 4–1, Millard 3–2, Delta 1–5, Milford 0–6.
The American Legion Auxiliary plans its annual essay contest What Americanism Means To Me with a program in the high school auditorium on Wednesday Feb 22 at 3 p m The event features color advance pledge prayer readings and a piano duet plus chorus numbers and awards to winners The program will be conducted by Mrs Carman Tenham of Paragould and Col Frank Dalley of Cedar City in a patriotic observance Also included are readings by Mae Simkins and Barbara Bayles with Edna Brown and Ethel Bayles performing as a duet.
Iron County Commissioners met to grant a 10 cent per hour raise to road staff. Truck drivers will earn 1.40, heavy equipment operators 1.75, and the road supervisor 1.80 per hour. The panel also discussed routing IS 24 via Highway 44 to Mule Point and upgrading Bone Hollow for Federal aid benchmarks. Sheriff Nelson reported the reward fund for Arden Heap now stands at 3,019.87 with an additional 405 pledged. Tony Alburto of Berry resigned as justice of the peace. A flood-control request from Sery for Shoal Creek was denied after a delegation led by Bruno Biasi, Alfred Peterson, and David Love appeared.
Leonard Rowley of Parowan earns wide notice at Weber High School Ogden for directing children's theater. A daily press release credits his direction of The Elves and the Shoemaker presented at twenty one Weber County elementary schools, with a cast now working on Heaven Can Wait. Rodrick Lister, son of Mr and Mrs Claude Lister, had leg surgery Monday at LDS Hospital Salt Lake City.
At Parowan High School PTS meeting a panel of two teachers two parents and two students discussed school building needs and the problem of midnight requisitions or petty theft of others property. The group included Marvin Graff Richard Jones Howard Knight Roberts Rowley Vallac Evans and Alan Dailey. After a thorough discussion suggestions to curb the issue were proposed a skit by eighth grade students directed by Miss Peterson was staged and refreshments followed.
The Medical Forum a panel discussion in Cedar City focuses on stomach ulcers at the College of Southern Utah auditorium on the Feb 29 meeting. Panel includes Dr T V Broadbent moderator Dr Eugens Davie Dr A J Graff Dr E C McIntyre and a Salt Lake City serialist. public invited to submit questions to Tran County Record or KSUB at least a week prior. Mrs Ida King left for Salt Lake due to her sister’s illness. Iron County School Board met in Parowan to survey schools building needs inspecting Parowan and Paragonah elementary buildings and hearing local proposals.
District Judge Will L. Hoyt sentenced Stanley Famasan Jr and John Merritt Peterson to prison terms in Utah State Prison after a short court session last week. Sampson received a term of not less than one year nor more than twenty. Peterson faced not less than one nor more than ten. Henry Harry Christensen’s forgery charge was continued, as was Austin Bulletts’ case, to the March term amid planned school and building expansions. The district addressed school crowding, sanitary facilities, and financing options, noting 45 mills current levies with up to 12 allowed by state law, and plans to fund any new construction as-needed before bids. Delegates Lillian Grimshaw and Barbara Bryant urged driver training expansion. Supt. Wright warned it’s costly and unlikely under current budgets, but a future plan will be pursued.
Utah Foundation reports commercial and industrial property totaled more than 681 million dollars, or 61 percent of the state's 1955 assessed valuation. Residential property reached 243 million, 22 percent, while agricultural valuation stood at 105 million, 9.5 percent. Motor vehicles added 66 million, six percent, with household furnishings making up 9 million.
Funeral services for Mrs. Revoe Wilcock Willner who died in an Fly hospital after a lingering illness were held last Friday in Ely. Burial followed at Ely City Cemetery. Born January 26, 1908 in Parowan she was the daughter of William S and Francis Rowley Wilcock. Survivors include her husband C. L. Willer. sons Doyle Eyre Elko Nevada Kenneth Eyre Wallace Eyre and Darwin Eyre all of Ely. daughters Mrs Vivian Ep person California Kathryn Conchis Ely. and brothers and sisters Rae Smith Eulala Nalder Alberta Canada Mary Munford Cedar City Jewel Wilcock Fillmore Alfred Wilcock Parowan Cyril and Richard Ely.
Infant son of Eugene and Elaine Watters Benson of Frankfort Germany was born January 23 and died at birth. Graveside services were held February 9 in Parowan Cemetery with dedicatory prayer by John Page. Survivors include the parents two sisters Linda and Michele maternal grandparents Roy Watters of Orem and Roy Benson paternal grandfather Parewan. The family will return to the States around March 1 then proceed to Fort Sill Oklahoma for further duty reporting.
Miss Eva Adams spent last week in Salt Lake City, visiting friends and attending local events while staying at a downtown hotel and returning home Friday.
Weather observer Clayton Rasmussen says the storm dumped six inches of snow from late Wednesday night to Thursday afternoon, with Wednesday night snowfall adding to moisture totals and improving water reserves.
