Iron County approves deputies for double execution
Nine Iron County men were named as special deputies to assist Sheriff Arthur Nelson in carrying out the executions of Vern Braasch and Melvin Sullivan at the Utah State Prison on February 24. Deputies must first take the constitutional oath. The State Pardons Board declined a last minute stay, ensuring the sentence proceeds.

Final Rites Held For Talbot Youth
Final rites were held Thursday afternoon February 7 for Gordon Leon Talbot with Bishop Gilbert Kotinson presiding. The service included organ music by Mrs. Melva Barton, offerings by Thomas A. Robinson and Samuel Abbott, and special numbers by Mrs. Rosemary Talbot and Gilbert and Maurine Guile. Paramedic Caroline Gale and Le Grande Gale offered prayers at the cemetery. Dozens from Beaver, Monroe, Salt Lake City, Cedar City and nearby communities attended, with many cousins and friends present.

Allen B. Taylor co-owner of the Ham Cafe in Parowan will turn over the cafe on March lat to partner W. LaMar Jensen and enter the insurance field with National Public Service Co. His headquarters will be in Fillmere as he buys a home and moves his family, selling their Parowan home first. The Taylors moved to the area two years ago and have been active in community affairs. Mrs. Taylor serves on the Stake Primary Board and as a teacher in the Mutual.

Parowan Youths Escape Bad Injury in Preak Accident
Four Parowan youths en route to Cedar City last Saturday evening escaped serious injury when the car they were traveling in was struck by another car after it swerved to avoid a deer on US highway 1 south of Winn Hollow bridge at 8 10 p m. Driver Allen Morris 14 and passengers Ted Hurten Donald Haycock and Rodney Howler were treated for minor cuts. Injured was Joseph Oliver Wha ten 24 of Alberta Canada in fair condition at Iron County hospital. The other car owned by A M Morris of Parowan was badly damaged. All boys and their parents remain in Parowan and the group kept their dates for the Cedar High School Sweetheart Ball.
