Jaycee D. S. A. Banquet Set for Distinguished Honor

The Jaycee Distinguished Service Award banquet in Parowa honors the outstanding young man of the past year. Tickets are available from Jaycee members or at the Ram, with reservations due by midnight February 17. The event occurs February 19 at the West Ward banquet room, admission 1.50 per plate.

Immunization Clinic To Be Held Here This Friday

The PTA sponsors a typhoid and smallpox immunization clinic for three Fridays starting Feb 18 at 9 30 am in the Elementary Schoolhouse with Dr Sorensen in charge. Residents needing boosters or new inoculations include those who had three typhoid doses last year or booster doses, and anyone lacking a successful vaccination take in five years. A small fee will be charged. all are invited.

B A C Receives Appropriation To Rebuild Library

A deficit appropriation of 150000 has been granted to Branch Agricultural College by the State Board of Examiners to rebuild the Library building which burned on December 12. The fire destroyed much of the top and most of the ground floors, displacing library and art departments and crowding classes in other buildings. The plan is to restore the old structure for library use and to add a library auditorium. Continued on Page Five.

Weather Alters Plans For Rural Life Education Conference

A snow storm disrupted a two day Cedar City conference on rural life and education. Only three guest speakers reached Southern Utah as travel blocked highways. Lois Clark N E A, N J Barlow and Winifred Hazen of the State Department of Education spoke to faculty and parents, with a panel of four Cedar City High School and Parowan School students.

Personal News Notes Highlight Local Visit and Real Estate Move

Mr and Mrs Ralph Hulu spent a week in Los Angeles visiting friends and relatives including three of Ralphs army buddies from the Pacific Islands during the recent War. The Ig North street Arthur Joseph name property was bought by W Clair Rowley and his wife who will move in this week. Arch Benson has recovered from pneumonia and was brought home Sunday and is now out and about a little.

Furnace Keeps East Ward Church Meetings From Going Forward

Heat failure at Parowan East Ward Chapel halted all church gatherings over the past week. A cracked boiler in the furnace after last Saturday’s fire rendered the heating system unusable. The Bishopric is rushing repairs to resume the Quarterly Conference Papawan Stake at the chapel on Sunday as scheduled.

Parowan L D S Stake Set for February Conference

Parowan Stake of the L D S Church plans its quarterly conference February 12 and 13 1949 with Apostle Al bert E Bowen representing the General Authorities. A Saturday dinner at 6 pm in West Ward hall follows by a priesthood leadership meeting at 7 40 pm. General sessions are Sunday at 10 am and 2 pm with an 7 20 pm evening session. Music by local choirs and quartets accompanies the services.
