Report from the selective service board shows men called for pre induction exams in Salt Lake City with most from Cedar City and nearby areas. Names listed include S. Stake Conference At Parowan Held February 12 13

The Parowan Stake of the L D S church will hold a two day stake conference on February 12 and 13. The Cedar Second ward chapel hosts the Saturday evening Aaronic Priesthood session while Sunday meetings occur in Parowan wards. Special visitor from the Presiding Bishopric addresses youth and priesthood members. teen girls are invited.

Bond sales push toward county quota in Parowan drive

Local bond and war bond sales progress with Parowan hitting about 50 percent of its $8,000 goal and Farowan near two thirds of a $26,000 county target. Postmaster Decker notes Parowan totals at $7,406.25 from a recent concert plus $2,000,141.23 countywide, while additional efforts aim to reach Feb 28 end.

March of Dimes drives Parowan total funds

The March of Dimes drive in Parowan raised fifteen dollars and twenty seven cents, with eleven dollars and twelve cents from local business boxes and school collections totaling fourteen dollars and twenty cents for elementary and the rest from high school grades. Seaman Alton D. Pendleton returns home for a visit from the San Diego naval facility before transfer to Shoemaker.

Claude Harris Attends Funeral in Goldendale Washington

Claude Harris returned from Goldendale Washington after traveling January 14 to attend the funeral of his father Arthur G Harris who died January 18 at nearly 86. The deceased worked as a carpenter since 1881 and was buried January 16. His mother, past 80, broke her hip and remains in hospital for about six months. Bruce Matheson, recently home from an Army camp in Southern California, plans a brief return visit with his wife and newborn.

Bentley Marries On Return From South Mission

John W. Bentley reports his son Shelby Bentley, a two year Southern States missionary and district president since June, returns home with his Salt Lake temple wife, Miss Huth Clark of Fannington Utah. Shelby speaks at Sacrament meeting on Sunday Feb 6.

Change In Passenger Tire Rationing Rules

The use of an automobile in an essential war occupation, not monthly mileage, will determine eligibility for passenger car tires under rationing. A shift from mileage to occupational basis expands Grade 1 eligibility for February. Drivers in essential war work receive priority, with Grade 3 tires allocated to others. District figures list limited Grade 1 supply and Grade 3 tire and tube inventories.

High School Students Write Letters to Armed Forces

Parowan and Cedar City high schools join the Parowan Stake Letter Writing Program delivering letters to all service members. Under Principal L. B Bennett and LeRoy Morris in Parowan, and George M. Parowan City Council Reorganizes Library Board

The Parowan City Council reorganized the city library board at a regular meeting. Mayor W. Scott Mitchell becomes a 2 year member and chairman. The six member board includes two 2 year, two 4 year, and two 6 year terms. New 2 year member other than the mayor is Owen Davis. 4 year members Georgia B. Mitchell and Jean Hendrickson. 1 year members Venice Decker and Edna S. Hateh. Council discussed a new power contract with Paragonah town to replace the old five year contract expiring February year. Under the old terms Paragonah reads meters, collects, and remits half to Parowan. meter slips show Parowan earning 1.8 cents per kilowatt year while buying power from Southern Utah Power Company at higher rates. A special meeting was set to review a new contract with Paragonah. representatives invited. Attorney A. M. Marden consulted about returning water to the Dobrusky lot in Parowan under city water rights. The matter was referred to the city attorney. Council discussed heavy equipment needs for street work. Councilman Miller will seek options in Salt Lake City. The council approved renting second-floor city hall rooms to A. M. Morris for a law office.

Paroway High School Stage Show Draws Mixed Attendance

Paroway high school's production of You Cant Take It With You played Thursday and Friday evenings last week. Snow storm kept many patrons away Thursday, while a larger crowd of students and townspeople attended Friday. The cast, new to such performances, received praise for their effort under director Alton D. Mertell. The show ranks well among the school's past productions.

Foe Utah sportsmen pick Fenton for state big game role

At a Salt Lake City meeting of the Utah Sportsmen association R J Fenton was named again as the association's representative on the State Board of Big Game Centre. He has held the position for several years and spoke at the convention opposing further federal encroachment on the state's big game management.
