Local physicians health officials and the school board met January 29 to plan treatment and control measures for a scarlet fever outbreak. A preventive dose of thulfadiazene was proposed for schoolchildren for two weeks, supported by past success in the army and civilian settings. The report includes warning signs and transmission details, urging prompt medical care for exposed or ill children and reiterating strict precautions to prevent spread.
Parowan Exchange club will host a Thursday evening dance in the recreation hall under the Entertainment committee led by Karl Mitchell. Owen Davis and LaMont Thomik also serve on the committee. The event aims to teach both old and modern dances with a good orchestra and instructors guiding attendees at nine. The group plans a monthly dance for the rest of the season.
A letter from the Veterans Administration in Salt Lake City thanks Mrs. Ednar Hatch and the PsYowan American Legion unit for sending salvage materials to the veterans hospital before Christmas. School students and others gathered old leather goods beads and more for a hospital hobby shop. the library will receive books and magazines and a repaired violin has brightened patients. Contributions to the drive continue via a box at the Taylor Cafe.
Miss Rhea Hurst state supervisor of War Food Preservation will tour Iron County February 5 6 and 7. She will demonstrate Food Storage In the Home and Storage of Kitchen Equipment with a session in Parowan on February 7 at 2 p m in the Westward Hall Society room. All women are invited to attend. Morris Rowley reminds parents of the next PTA meeting February 7 at 7 30 p m in the high school auditorium.

Iron County reports 242 cases received public assistance in December 1944 totaling 11 201 dollars. Old age and dependent children aid dominate the mix, with a statewide funding split showing 46 37 percent from State funds, 38 percent from Federal funds, and 15 percent from county funds.
The Valentine Hall ball, sponsored by the Mutual Improvement Associations of both wards, will occur Tuesday evening February 13 in the Recreation Hall. It is part of the two wards budget with special decorations and cool music and all are invited. The Westward MTA play moved to Thursday February 18 in the Recreation Hall.
Iron County draft notices list fifteen men to report February 12 for induction, with questions if the list will be expanded. Cedar City and Parowan residents named, plus two local men enlisting in Navy for final examination. Additional names from Parowan, Paragonah, and Osdar City appear, along with details on a farewell social and a later pre induction call for twenty five more men. Also reports Sgt John W Seaman missing in Belgium since December.
