Seven Schools Map Southern Division Basketball Schedule 1940

Representatives from Parowan Cedar Hurricane Dixie Enterprise Kanab and Valley High of Orderville drew up the Southern Division schedule for 1940. Each team plays six home and six away games starting January with Parowan vs Dixie on the Dixie floor and weekend matchups across the three days.

Santa Claus to Visit East Ward Christmas Tree Event

Special to the Times reports Santa Claus will attend the East Ward Christmas Tree program on Christmas Eve. He will come from a long distance, delivering candy to all children. families are urged to attend for a short, snappy program and to hear from Santa.

Missionary Rupert Hulet Returns Home After Mission

Eld er Rupert S. Hulet, son of Mr. and Mrs. Wallace Hulet, completed a twenty five month assignment for the Latter day Saints in the Western States. He will speak at the West Ward sacrament meeting next Sunday with a Christmas program, and East Ward members are urged to attend.

Exchange Club Hears Committee Reports

Members of the local Exchange Club heard reports from standing committees at a noon luncheon at Taylor's Cafe. The land purchase committee reported papers drawn and sent to the State Fish and Game department for Yankee Reservoir deal. expect action soon. The Road Committee will push with the State Road Commission to build more of Parowan Canyon road this coming summer. The doctors committee will confer with Dr. Bayles, who leaves for Pittsburgh for three months, hoping he'll return. The president authorized a committee to meet the Iron County School Board to assess the athletic field project for the high school and urge completion next summer.

Wedding Reception and Dance at West Ward Church

Charles W. Elliott and Zelma Tullis wed in the county recorder's office with Bishop W. L. Adam officiating. A reception followed in the relief rooms with ice cream wafers and wedding cake at 9 o'clock, then a public dance in the recreation hall with the Rhythm Kings.

Civic Clubs To Meet At St George Dec 31

The final year’s meeting of the Associated Civic Clubs of Southern Utah will be held in St George on Saturday, December 30, with President James Sargent presiding. Washington county directors Laron B Andrus and Chauncey Sandberg and J. L. Wadsworth of the St George chamber of commerce organize. The gathering will discuss interstate advertising plans with Colorado and neighboring states and may invite Governor Blood and other officials. Afterward L A Wynaught of Milford becomes president for 1940. Quail hunting is planned for December 31 with guns required. inquiries go to Andrus or Wadsworth for hotel arrangements.

Funeral held for Mrs Julia Banks of Minersville

A large Minersville community gathering attended the funeral of Mrs Julia Burton Banks 49 wife of Randall Banks and former local resident who died after surgery at Milford hospital. Born November 1 1890 she moved to Minersville in 1909 later lived in Beaver County and left seven children including Burton Banks Virginia Beaumont Dorothy Richard Robert Jessie Diane and Shannon. Relatives from here included Oscar Morris Alice Lyman and several Mortensens.

Dr Bayles To Study At Pittsburg Pennsylvania

Dr Wesley L Bayles announces he will leave January 4 or 5 for Pittsburg Pennsylvania for three months of training in medical and surgical work He plans to return in spring to resume practice He invites holidays patients for tonsil removals and glasses fittings and will offer Typhoid inoculations at West Ward church on December 27 with three shots for 50 cents He thanks the community for support during his practice.

West Ward Elders to Hold Benefit Dance

The West Ward Elders Quorum plans an Old Time dance in the Recreation Hall next Wednesday night to raise funds for widows of the ward. Five prizes will be awarded to top dancers in Fox Trot Walt and other old time dances. Everyone is invited to attend. Almost 400 relatives and friends gathered for Mr and Mrs Timothy Robinsons Golden Wedding anniversary at the Paragonah schoolhouse on Monday evening with a program, refreshments, and dancing. Orland Ward returned from the University of Southern California for Christmas and will be in Los Angeles for the USC Tennessee football game on New Year’s Day.
