Information indicates strong local enthusiasm for a Glass Factory as residents pledge thousands of dollars and receive inquiries from former residents outside Parowan about purchasing stock, boosting confidence that the goal can be met.
Rams edge Hurricanes 42 42 in overtime after trailing by 12 at end of regulation. Coach Ray Watters notes 75 percent improvement in two weeks. Next game with Gunnison, then Lincoln County High School in Panaca Nevada on Friday night Dec 23.
Mr and Mrs Carl Rummiler host a free Friday afternoon show at 2 30 featuring the popular children’s play Alice In Wonderland and a color cartoon for elementary students.
Santa Claus will visit Parowan Saturday night during Christmas programs in each Ward. West Ward program starts at 6 30 p m with Primary Associations in charge and goodies distributed by Santa. East Ward program follows at 7 30 p m with Sunday School in charge and similar treats for children.
Social Security officials urge unemployed workers aged 65 or over to visit the Provo office field representative in Cedar City. Sterling K. Peterson will be at the U.S. Employment Service on December 20, 1949 at 9:00 am to assist in filing Old Age and Survivors benefit claims.
Parowan residents and students cleared the ski run and parking spots ahead of snow. Edger King led a committee of enthusiasts who sponsored the project and did much of the work. Doyle Clark heads a Ski Club with Herbert Kincaid as instructor and a school will be held Saturday afternoon. memberships and a small nonmember fee apply. The Parowan Mercantile will give away ten sets of skis between now and Christmas with details at the store.
Wm U Thornton and his wife, longtime Parowan residents, were honored in St George on November 25 by family and guests at the St George DUP building. A turkey dinner, decorated tables, and a large birthday cake marked the occasion as many relatives gathered, including six of their 14 children and numerous grandchildren. The couple’s actual wedding date was November 17, with the celebration postponed to a later date.
The American Legion Auxiliary Post No. 20 held its regular December meeting and Christmas social on Thursday evening December 8 at Mrs. Jesse Guymon’s home. The rehab program was presented during the gathering.
George Holyoak of Burley and his relatives, former Parowan residents who left in 1895 for Circleville then Idaho, spent weeks visiting Parowan with eight seven sons and one daughter who is a teacher. Hillman Adams and Mrs Adams joined Luella R. Adams. Sgt Adams, an army air corps veteran, toured Parowan before heading to Lowary Field Denver where he will teach electronic work.
Parowan Stake President W Clair Rowley calls a Stake Welfare meeting for all Stake and Ward Welfare workers Monday at 7 30 p m in the Seminary building. Attendees include the Stake Presidency Stake Relief Society presidency ward bishoprics Stake Agricultural representatives and Melchizedek Priesthood Quorum representatives from the Stake.
Mr and Mrs Hugh L Adams of Parowan announce a new granddaughter born Sunday to Henry and Lillian Adams Grimshaw of Enoch. The child joins three brothers and three sisters, with several young relatives visiting Parowan. Kay Jean Mickelson, first daughter of Ernest and Jean Mickelson of Flagstaff, arrived November 28 weighing 6 pounds. Her brothers Neila and Harvey are 8 and 5. Albert Mickelson of Parowan shares in the good news, while Dwain Van Ausdel of Iron County High School reports a new daughter born December 3. Maternal grandmother Mrs Edward Ockey of Nephi is aiding care for three-year-old Richard and others. Lee Rowley celebrates another grandchild, a baby boy born to Mr and Mrs…
County Commissioners approve 1950 budget with 3000 for Parowan fire equipment and 1000 for Iron County FFA revolving fund, plus 44 new appropriations. Hearing scheduled Dec 30 at 10 a m in the county courthouse with adoption at 2 p m. Cedar City to receive similar yearly grants. nine mile equipment radius defined. A county property survey was ordered and sheriff to post possession notices, with adjournment to Dec 30 for the budget hearing.
The Stake MIA will sponsor a Christmas Music Festival Friday evening in the East Ward at 8 p m. Each of the five wards will present two numbers centering on Christmas with a candlelight service and carol singing by wax tapers. D A Stones directs the program with mixed quartet and instrumental duets from Paragonah and Parowan East Ward, plus Bee Hive Girls and a West Ward vocal duet. Summit and Enoch Wards contributions are not yet announced.
Crafts Instructions Offered Adults At School In Iron County A class in arts and crafts using plastics leather and metal begins weekly on Wednesday nights at 7 p.m. in the shop room. Dwain Van Ausden, Iron County High School instructor, leads with support from the School Board. A $5.90 fee funds part of the instructor’s time and a second class may be added to accommodate more students. Interested residents should contact Mrs Miriam Lister or speak with Mr Van Ausdel at the class.
Adrian F.E. Dalton, son of Mr. and Mrs. Rulan R. Dalton, earned the highest scholastic record among U.S.A.C. forestry seniors for the 1948 1949 school years. His name will be engraved on a gold honor plaque in the forestry building. Dalton joined Xi Sigma Pi in January 1949, and the fraternity now has 22 members. He is a Parowan High School graduate who served in the Army, including fourteen months in Europe with Mechanized Cavalry.
Mrs Edna Brown led a Parowan Literary Club meeting at Mrs Miriam P Listers home Wednesday. Seventeen members attended. The group planned a Christmas Gift box party on December 21 at Mrs Fae N Benson's home and a New Year dinner for members and partners on December 30 at Mr and Mrs Jeel Guymon's home.
Parowan High School Music Department presents its Christmas program on Thursday December 22 at 8 00 p m in the PHS Auditorium The mixed chorus and band join for carols narrated by Alton Merrill Soloists Veon Bayles Fred Dalton and a girls trio Veon MacFarlane Janet Mortensen Katrine Taylor perform The band opens with a Christmas piece and plays three Christmas Chorales Public invited to share in a musical Merry Christmas.
The East Ward Choir was reorganized with Frankie Lou Burton named president Claude Orton as vice president Watson Adama secretary treasurer Leflani Bentley librarian Ivan Decker to direct and Mary Lyman to accompany. The bishopric and new officers seek cooperation of old members and to recruit new members for church gatherings.

To all practical nurses invited to a social by the Bureau of Home Nursing on December 21, 1949 at the Art Mom of the Lion House in Salt Lake City. A splendid program with refreshments and a main event awarding prizes to contest winners.
The first degree murder trial of Verne Braasch and Melvin Sullivan moved from Beaver to Parowan after a two day jury pool, a 12 member panel with one alternate chosen. District Judge Hoyt granted the change of venue amid defense objections. Prosecution led by Ellis Pickett and George Miller, defense by Orville Isom and Patrick Fenton.
