Governor Mabey Leads Parowan Meeting On Law Enforcement

Governor Charles Mabey visited Parowan with Preston Petersen F D B Gay and R L Jones to promote the Eighteenth Amendment enforcement and Wendover Highway plans. The group spoke to citizens and school children at a tabernacle gathering, with Mabey urging public support for Prohibition and road developments, then continued to Cedar City and St George for similar talks.

Palmer Bond Co. clears rumors on Parowan bond sale

Palmer Bond & Mortgage Co. releases a fact statement about Parowan City's 165000 bond issue for an electric light plant. The firm confirms purchase of 72000 in bonds plus 87000 water bonds, paid at par with 10000 cash and rest in interest bearing certificates, no strings or conditional sale.

Officials School Guides New Basketball Divisions

President Moss and Secretary Wilson of the State Association led a School for Officials for Basketball at St George with representatives from Parowan Beaver Minersville B A C St George Kanab and Orderville. Parowan played Dixie and B A C Dixie with Dixie winning both. Parowan beat Dixie Normal 22 to 21 in a Saturday session. A new North South grouping was approved: Parowan Beaver Minersville Milford in the North and B A C Dixie Kanab Orderville in the South. First games January 25: Parowan vs Beaver and Minersville vs Milford.

Parowan Chamber Plans Banquet And Ball

The Parowan Chamber of Commerce hosts a big year end banquet in the Relief Hall at 7 p.m. on Saturday with a free banquet for members and partners, followed by an election of officers and a dance in the opera house. Attendance is urged as the stake leadership and new members are emphasized.

Gleaners Club Presents Shakespeare Talk at Sunday Program

Sunday night's program by the Gleaners Literary Club of the M. I. A featured Mr. King Hendricks of the B. A. C. faculty delivering a fine talk on the life and writings of William Shakespeare. Miss Mary Orton then read the court scene from The Merchant of Venice in a pleasing style.

Special Program at Chapel Exercises

Wednesday morning a special program was given by the student body in their Chapel exercises. It consisted of prayer by Mary LeFevre greetings for Thanksgiving from Honard Burt a characterization of a New England farmer by Neta Thornton vocal solo by Homer Chilton Thanksgiving story by Gertrude Bentley a song by the Girls Glee Club and The First Thanksgiving by Bessie Halterman.

Ward breaks leg while gathering wood in hills

Mr Wm G Ward broke his leg this afternoon while in the hills collecting wood. He was rushed to Cedar City to have the injury set. The break is between the ankle and knee. Details are lacking.

Mrs Amelia J Topham reports son Silas at L D S U Salt Lake City doing college work while taking violin lessons. Los Angeles reports Mr and Mrs Thomas Lemmon welcomed a baby girl. The Benson, Whitner, Whitney, Adams and Mitchell families held reunions and Thanksgiving dinners with guests in Relief Hall and at homes. Local property moves and well drilling by Hatterman crews were noted.

Marsden Buys Fanny's Hotel in Local Deal

Mr L N Marsden announced yesterday morning that he has purchased Fannys Hotel from Mrs Anthony Paxton who owned the property. The present lease held by Mr and Mrs Warrington runs until the 22nd of this month and Marsden plans to re lease to another party.

Highway plan routes through Hurricane LaVerkin Toquerville

During the Governor's visit it was announced that the main highway in Washington County will pass via Hurricane LaVerkin and Toquerville to St George, adding only about two miles. The F A N Club hosted their husbands for a turkey supper in Relief Hall last Wednesday night with about twenty four guests.

Reports from most city districts indicate Parowan has surpassed its Christmas Health Seals quota. Residents responded cheerfully with many giving more than their allotted amount. The drive ends statewide at Christmas, but local efforts should close soon.

Best Dance Of The Season At Thanksgiving Dance

The Gun and Red Club hosted the Thanksgiving night dance described as the season's biggest event. Unique decorations and good music drew a large crowd, with 128 tickets sold at one dollar each, including many Cedar and Beaver attendees.

Union Pacific hotel plans for Southern Utah denied

Mr Gay says reports that the Union Pacific system abandoned its hotel program for Southern Utah are without foundation. Camps will be rushed to completion at Zion and Bryce to handle summer travel and hotels will be built as rapidly as possible, though it may take a couple of weeks. Mr Jesse Rowley is building a new two room frame house on part of his father's lot.
