Annual Potato Field Tour Planned for Sept 5
The Escalante Valley and Washington areas will hold the annual potato field tour on Wednesday September 5. Utah State University staff including President S Harris and Extension Service Assistant Director Robert Wiley will lead a delegation. The tour route covers farms from Gedar City to Bryad Beacham with a noon lunch and brief meeting at Zuckerman Company farm, ending in Entrep.

Plans Made To Enlarge Iron County Hospital
Tentative plans for extensive improvements at the Iron County Hospital were outlined by the hospital board and Iron County Commissioners. Architect Fred Markham of Provo was authorized to draft plans for additions including 25-bed ward, isolation and children’s wards, emergency entrance, kitchen modernization, lab expansion, delivery room, and heating and laundry upgrades. Financed by a one mill levy and $16,000 in unexpended funds, with no definite cost yet. bonding may be avoided if possible.

Funeral Held Monday For Maria de Winter
Funeral services for Mrs. Maria de Winter were held Monday in the West ward chapel. She died Thursday evening at home at age 88 after prolonged illness. Speakers included Taylor Miller Howard Joseph and Mrs. Marabara Adams. Hymns and music were led by Newell Weight and a male quartet. Mrs. de Winter was born Maria Niddrie in Mull Scotland July 22, 1961. She lived in Highlands Quebec Ontario Winnipeg and finally came here five years ago with her daughters Mary and Bertha. Survived by many children grandchildren and great grandchildren. funeral details given locally.

State Fair to hold victory exposition after war end
Relaxed federal shipping rules enable the Utah State Fair Association to schedule a victory exposition September 3 to 11 representing the entire state. Exhibits are being solicited, with secretary-manager Sheldon Brewster inviting entries and outlining plans for grandstand shows, animal acts, trapeze, a Tollywood chorus, clowns, fireworks, racing, and other features. Mrs. James Parks of McGill, Nevada, visited with the Claude Harris family, joined by her brother-in-law Jack Parks recently discharged from the Army.

Parowan men with long and varied overseas service return home during the week. Lt. Col. A. C. Hatch arrives from Antwerp to join his family on 30 day special duty before reporting back to Fort Douglas. Hatch served in England and France, including the Bulge, and has held QM roles. Other locals include Arpel Taylor returning from nineteen months aboard a minesweeper in the South Pacific, Arden Richards in Pacific waters with amphibious landings, Thomas Vern Holyoak discharged after over three years overseas, and Sgt Rupert Hulet of the Army Air Forces returning from Italy.

Second Annual Horse Show at Cedar City Promise Big Lineup
Considerable interest surrounds the Second Annual Horse Show tied to the Southern Utah Livestock Show in Cedar City on September 13 to 15. The event, main feature of the entertainment program, will occur on Friday September 14 at the BAC stud? arena. Organizers led by Kument L. Jones forecast the largest Southern Utah horse show yet with gaited horses, special events, and teams from local communities. A Main Street parade will precede the afternoon events, with participating horses marching in the parade and show.

Parowan Property Owners To Pay 41.5 Mill Tax Levy
Parowan City faces a 41.6 mill total tax levy for the coming year after adjustments to county and school levies. City purposes take 13.5 mills, state and county needs 28 mills, with outside-city properties at 24 mills and Cedar City area at 5 mills. County funds total 8.3 mills, up 1.1 from last year, and school levies were cut to 15.7 mills due to higher real estate valuations. Halterman Arrives Home in Povowan After Overseas Service
Cpl Lyle Halterman, home to Povowan with parents Mr and Mrs 5 A Halterman his wife Connie and sister Bertha Sue, met in Salt Lake City after twenty months in the Army and December overseas combat in Germany. He will stay until October 1 then report back east for new assignment, possibly Fort Douglas. Dell Clark also visited from Long Beach, California, to see his mother and relatives.
