At a night Chamber of Commerce gathering Congressman W K urged broader wool grading reform in Utah. He cited farm losses, foreign wool pricing, and grading methods as factors. He warned small operators may be squeezed, noted grazing and water concerns, and mentioned local funding for governmental projects.
The County Sheriff Office reports rising gunfire complaints in Parowan outskirts. Deputy Ray H. Adlum cites two gun confiscations, two unrelated shooting groups, and nearby incidents including a bullet piercing a Vernon Heaps home and narrowly missing a resident. City ordinances ban discharging firearms in inhabited areas with penalties. Iron County ordinances prohibit gun use outside towns. Strict enforcement will continue.
Kenneth B. Mitchell son of Mrs David Richards of Parowan and Miss La Ra Barton daughter of Mr and Mrs Austin Barton of Parowan were married Sunday in Las Vegas Nevada. The groom a Parowan High School graduate, served thirty months with the armed forces in the European theatre and works at the Conoco Service station here. The bride, a Parowan senior, is a standout in her community. They left for a short honeymoon in Salt Lake City and Northern Utah.
The Paragonah Fish and Game Club hosts a dance Saturday night in the School Auditorium to raise funds for playground equipment. Everyone is invited to support the project in this end of the county. Mr and Mrs Hatch and Mr and Mrs Adams attended the American Legion Convention in Price last weekend.
The Iron County School Board approved adding new teachers as part of a state education push. Plans include bus purchases, extended use of a surplus property program, and meetings with communities on school issues. Superintendent Janthus Wright reported on Salt Lake City talks about financing changes.
A farewell ceremony for Paragonah missionaries was scheduled for Saturday as Maxine Lund daughter of Mr and Mrs Terry Lund prepared to enter the mission home in September. The event planned by a committee featured an altered program and social time afterward.
SGT Hillman Adams, son of Mrs Luella Adams of Parowan, married Helen Carmeran of St Paul Minnesota. Adams has served in the Army for several years and has been stationed at Lowry Field Denver. post marriage they visited relatives in Sault Lake City before returning to Denver.
Cedar City officials from Cedar City prepare to welcome dignitaries next Wednesday and Thursday as Cedar hosts a municipal league event. The inauguration will start Thursday with a pre-convention session on Wednesday led by Salt Lake City Mayor End and other regional leaders. A high profile air show by state aviation authorities is planned, followed by an excursion to Prom Secuntain mines. Clara Dale Rowis recently left her job at Pituh Parks CO to join Grand Cinvot bendie.
Parowan Chapter of the FFA schedules a meeting in the Ag room at Parowan High School Monday evening to discuss exhibits for the Iron County Fair. Attendance is urged for all members.
Iron County moves to clear access for Cedar Breaks road project as land buy by county makes way for National Park Service work. Land from J Hazell Mitchull unlocks boundary near Cedar Breaks and Monmouth on Parowan side, enabling priority construction. County actions include salary raises and road inquiries, plus weed inspector reports and fair committee appointment.
A farewell gathering is set for Friday evening August 30 to honor Junius Reusch as he leaves for the Spanish American Mission with headquarters in El Paso Texas. The West Ward Chapel and Recreation Hall will host the event with a short program in the chapel followed by a dance in the recreation hall. Reusch departs for service September 2 in Salt Lake City.
Parewan Post No 20 of the American Legion holds a meeting Tuesday night in the Iron County Court House to plan VJ day celebrations and discuss other business. All ex service men of both wars are urged to attend. Also noted are visits by the Barmmey and Evans families from Hammond Indiana and Taylor family return from Benjamin Utah. La Ray Gilger, recovering in a Corona Naval Hospital, earned his high school diploma. Thomas Fisher and family of Michigan visited Parowan this week.
Paragonah correspondent records several social items. Elma Topham Jeanette Topham and two waitresses from Escalante Coffee Shop plan a Thursday tour of the parks. Mrs Martha Barton visited Provo to see daughter Aina Cameron and family. Ladeun Topham returns from Bryce Canyon and works at Escalante Hotel Cedar City. Mrs B Robinson hosted Mrs Pearl McConnel of Cedar City for a birthday gathering. Lloyd Wise and brother Ted Barton visitors with their mother Gertrude Carpenter. Mr and Mrs Ivor Adair and family of Colorado stay with Betsy Boardman. Ethel Mar will attend BYU this winter. Ralph Edwards discharged from U S Navy and at home.
