School Board Seeks Building Loan For Welch City Grade School

Iron Lest NiPent board held a special Saturday meeting to pursue a $104000 grade school building project for Welch City. Architects Scott and Was to draft plans while four bonding firms offered 3 percent rates and no- cost bond election services if taxpayer approval is obtained. Gures Announce Their Daughter's Marriage

Mr and Mrs James E Gurr Cedar City announce the marriage of their daughter Orel to Mrs Paul McClure of Greensburg Kentucky. The marriage took place at Parowan on August 20 with Bishop W L Adams officiating. They will reside in Kentucky after October 1 as Mr McClure is employed there. Acknowledgments of congratulations are extended for health and happiness.

Sinsbury and Nelson TQ to Headline Fair Fight Cards

Arlington Spilsbury and Prean Nelson will headline the Fatt nd Race Meet on September 6 and 7 at Cedar City, with matchups being filled from performance records. Curtain bouts on the 5th and 6th feature local fighters Marion Whitney Vert Kelsey Slack Davenport and others, as organizers seek evenly matched bouts and real thrills for fans.

Parowan Stake Outing Planned at Vermilion Castle Forest

Preparations are under way for the Parowan State Outing to be held next Saturday at the Vermilion Castle Forest camp Five Mile. The program starts at 2 p m with games and stunts followed by a bonfire. Each ward or family provides transportation and supper. Stake committees manage other arrangements inviting clubs and families to join in a county wide celebration.

Good Woman Anna Hansen Gurr Dies at 77 in Community

Mrs. Anna Hansen Gurr 77 widow of William M. Gurr died Saturday night after declining health since her husband’s death. Funeral services were held Monday at the Ease Ward chapel with remarks by church leaders and tributes from relatives and friends. Survived by four children, ten grandchildren, and fourteen great grandchildren, she was born in Cedar City and lived in the area most of her life.

Storage Tank Bids To Be Called For Soon

Mayor L N Marsen announced return from Salt Lake City that bids for a 250000 gallon concrete storage reservoir and new metal pipe for the hydro electric system will likely be awarded around September 10. Both projects are part of the cities PWA program to modernize water and power facilities.

4000 Fish Planted in Yankee Reservoir

Four thousand fish, mostly under legal size, are released into the Yankee reservoir from Beaver hatchery. Signs announce the reservoir closed for the rest of the season to protect the new stock. State official Cook is being consulted for closure permission. Water level is low and existing fish taste muddy. locals hope for better fishing next season after growth.

Ward was received here recently by their people that Mr Frana Tasmussen and Misa Artell Ward were married a short time ago in Los Angeles. The groom is a son of Mr and Mrs John T Rasmussen and the bride daughter of Mr and Mrs Wm Ward. They have many friends here who extend congratulations. Mrs Tr L Fenton visited Salt Lake City. sister Mary H Dalley of Preston Idaho. Ars Gurr active in church work as stake president of Primary for ten or fifteen years. The community extends sympathy to her bereaved family in their loss of a devoted mother.

Loan To Liquidate Bank Seems Certain

Depositors of the Bank of Iron County in liquidation may receive a substantial payment by September 15. A loan from the Reconstruction Finance Corporation is being pursued, pending a court order authorizing borrowing. A September 4 hearing date is set for the petition, with prior dividends totaling thirty percent and an estimated forty to fifty percent more from the loan.

American Legion plans nightly prize drawings during the Fair and Race Meet on September 5 6 and 7. Tickets with stubs enter dances with a grand prize on the final night. Lee Evans orchestra will play in the high school gym likely, with a polished floor and ample air. If hot, indoor dancing may move to the Brown Derby floor.

Local Foys Apply to Join the Army

Local Girl Maude Lyman Dies in Provo Hospital

Miss Maude Lyman 34 of this community died Wednesday evening at the state hospital in Provo from injuries after a fall in the bathtub. Burial was set for Sunday at the West Ward chapel. She was born September 23 190 to Oscar M and Hannah Turton Lyman. Surviving are her father two brothers Frank Morria and sister Florence Mickelson, all of the city. She had longtime illness and received hospital care the past year or two. Community extends sympathy to the bereaved family.

Cedar City Prepares For State Municipal League Meeting

Marsden to Open Clothing Business in Cedar City

L N Marsden announced this week plans to start a clothing business in Cedar City. He will keep his grocery business here with Hex O Ward managing it, and Ward is buying into Marsden’s local operation. Marsden previously opened a store in Cedar City but left due to a slump.
