The city council learned at the August meeting that federal PWA funds are available for the hydro electric system improvement to replace canyon pipe line wood pipes. Mayor Marsden said word arrived days earlier and the council authorized delivering the bond to a Salt Lake City bank to receive funds. Bids for the project and for building a storage reservoir may be called soon, with details on new bookkeeping and extra compensation for staff. The group also discussed weed control, a breakwater crossing improvement on 3rd West street, and extending power lines to irrigation areas west of Parowan fields. A request for free electricity to a canning center was denied due to city ordinances.

Woman Struck by Truck Injures Mother and Child
Mrs Samuel J Whitney was badly injured yesterday on lower Main Street when she ran to rescue her three year old son from danger and was struck by a truck from Southern Utah Trucking Co driven by Su. She suffered a badly broken hip and other injuries but expected to recover. The incident occurred as the child ran toward his father across the street and the mother stepped in front of the truck to shield him.
