County Fair Announces Department Heads in Iron County

Iron County fair organizers announce division chairmen for the three day event with K J King chairing the horse show and rice meet, Halterman in field crops, Gurr in vegetables, and Mitchell leading home making. 4-H, arts and crafts, and sewing supervisors named while a push for further support warns that without help the Parowan fair could be abandoned.

Stake Quarterly Conference Set For August 30 21st

Jerrolyn Orton to Become Mrs Willden Saturday

Jerrolyn Orton of Parowan will wed A V Willden of Beaver in double ring rites at her parents home on Saturday August 9. A reception will follow in Parowan relief society rooms with Bryce Orton hosting. Bridesmaids Anna Marie Nielson and Lor en Orton and maid of honor Joy Bayles. Best man Jon Oakden. The bride attended Parowan High School and was active in student government and debate. Willden is a Beaver High School graduate and recently discharged from the U S Army after Korea service. The couple will reside in Beaver after a brief honeymoon.

Emily Humphins- Lee Grande Wood Wed At Ceremony

Emily D Humphins and Lee Grande Wood wed at a quiet home ceremony hosted by the Humphins family. The bride Kelly D Humphfas or Humphins became Mrs Wood with Samuel J Wilney officiating in the presence of close family. The groom, a Cedar City native, plans to continue bakery work while the couple establishes a home in Cedar City after a Las Vegas Grand Canyon honeymoon.

Relief Society Announces Regular Work Meetings Schedule

Mrs. Gertrude Adama, a work counselor in the Third Ward Relief Society, states that the society will hold a regular work meeting on Tuesday evening in the Relief Society rooms. Meetings will then occur on the second Tuesdays of the months until weekly gatherings resume in October.

Gurr Family Reunion At Parowan Gathering

William J. Gurr family members and relatives from Salt Lake City Boise St. Louis and Cedar City gathered at Parowan for a week long reunion with mountain trips and time with grandparents. Elvin Gurrs of Yuma could not attend.

Local couple attends son's wedding reception in Salt Lake City

Mr and Mrs Merrill Thornton and daughters Annette of Parowan and Donna Jean Jerry of Cedar City attended the wedding reception for Mr and Mrs Troy W Thornton at Memorial House Memory Grove Salt Lake City. The ceremony had been held earlier at the Logan Idaho Temple. The bride Rosaland Bergeson of Salt Lake City is the daughter of A M Bergeson of Logan. The bride wore chantilly lace and slipper satin with a lace panel train and a nylon net veil. Attendants included matron of honor Mrs David L Evans and bridesmaids Helen Speirman Shirley Jensen Annette Thornton. Best man Dick Powell. ushers Max Bagley Granville Olsen. The new Mrs Thornton is chief dietician at HHS Adar Force Base. the groom is a cashier in the trust department of Walker Bank Salt Lake City. They honeymoon in the Pacific Northwest and plan to reside in Salt Lake City after visiting Parowan.

New Arrival Brightens Twin Falls Family Circle

A baby boy arrived at a Twin Falls hospital on August 5, increasing Murray and Anna Gurr Rawson of Richfield Idaho to two sons and two daughters. Maternal grandparents are Peter H. Gurr and his wife, while paternal grandparents are Ed and Mrs Rawson of Salt Lake City. The notice notes the family’s 29th grandchild and ends with a continuation on the back page.

Parowan Stake Gleaners Host Navajo Lake Outing

About 40 Mia Junior Gleaner girls from Parowan Stake will travel Monday to Navajo Lake for a two day outing at Centre Campgrounds. Activities include games, sports, a campfire, and a nature hike with chaperones Mrs Guymon and ward leaders coordinating meals and programs.

Parowan City Sets Tax Levy for 1952 at 21 Mills

Parowan City council set a 21 mill tax levy for 1952 at a recent special meeting. The levy funds include general 4 mills, streets and sidewalks 2 mills, library 3 mills, park 1 mill, public safety 4 mills, and debt retirement 7 mills. Mayor Lyman noted civic improvements and steady power sale income at about 6,000 monthly to fund plant operations. The county levy will be decided at the county commissioners’ meeting on Thursday.

Delegates Attend State Conventions in Salt Lake City

Parowan delegates W Scott Mitchell Marvin HM Graff and Warren Pendleton joined the State Democratic convention in Salt Lake City last Saturday. Mrs Graff and Mrs Mitchell accompanied the men for a weekend visit to the Brats Capitol. Republicans heard EK J King B Ray Lyman W Clair Rowley and Amos C Hatch from Parowan with Glendon Goyman from Paragonah also present. Three Iron County Men Suffer Injuries in Car Crash

Three Iron County men Kay Lamoreaux Brent Davis and Bud Smith were injured Friday evening when their car swerved to avoid a cow on highway 89 near Panguitch. Lamoreaux sustained severe arm injuries requiring about 150 stitches. Davis and Smith were released Sunday.

Lightning Fire Destroys Walter Stubbs Home in Town

A Thursday afternoon blaze gutted the interior of the Walter Stubbs residence causing an estimated $3,000 in damage. Fire Chief M. Clark said water and smoke ruined most rooms before the two alarms brought by neighbors from the quick response of the department saved the structure. Stubbs, who lives alone, was away when the fire began. Continued on Page Three.

O N O Club Hosts Outdoor Supper at King Home

Members of the O N O club hosted an outdoor supper in the garden at the B J King home. Mrs King and several hosts prepared a grilled meal. Guests included Mr and Mrs Gene Robb of Salt Lake City. Mrs Benson Haycock plans to host the club at its regular meeting Thursday.
