Reports claim President Warren G. Harding died last night at the Palace Hotel in San Francisco after returning from Alaska. Meagre notices say ptomaine poisoning and pleuro-pneumonia led to his death, shocking the nation as papers indicate recovery had begun. Full details will appear next week.
Mr. Leon Ward sustained a broken leg Tuesday evening after colliding with an automobile driven by George Chilton. Witnesses say no one was clearly at fault as Ward, running north and west, did not see the car in time. The auto struck him first on the front fender then the rear fender, breaking the leg near the ankle. He is recovering as well as can be expected.
Students in the Agg Club planted small plots of certified Dicklow wheat last spring. About 100 bushels may qualify for certification, supplying seed for next year. Certification requires sampling, bagging, sealing, and analysis to verify a single variety under state or government oversight. Some plots may face certification issues due to handling.
Miss Mable Stubbs of Provo and Mr Clair Mortensen of Bilford were united in marriage at the bride’s mother Mrs Alma Straw home on Wednesday night at eight. Miss Stubbs is popular in Provo and recently visited Milford. Mortensen co proprietor of the Ever Ready case is well known there. The Times and friends wish the couple happiness and joy as they plan to return to Milford at week’s end.
Elder Edward G. Matheson, laboring in the Western States Mission, expresses heartfelt thanks to Mrs Cora Mortenson and the Parowan Ward Y. S. M. I. A. for a ten dollar gift and ongoing backing. He notes district apathy to the message in Northern Colorado, but credits home support with maintaining his resolve and faith. Officers urge continued monthly missionary committee visits and fundraising for the missionary fund.
A list of new books added to the library shelves includes The Uncharted Peacock What Men Live By Mum orous Speaker and Let's Pretend among many others. Bis Hannah Dalton of Salt Lake City and her son Bartlett Dalton stayed overnight here touring Southern Utah landmarks Bryce Grand Canyon Zion Cedar Breaks and were hosted by Aunt Dena Mitchell. Bartlett Dalton serves as district attorney for the Seventh Judicial District of the state.
City ordinances published about Matheson promotion and labor changes at Nevada Copper Mills with eight years service and fifty workers under him. Reports of Mr P A Clark and family outing to Fish Lake and trout catches. Beaver sighting at Hushier lake and pheasants released by the Gun and Red Club. Lightning struck the opera house facade during today’s storm.
The first prize money for best float in the 4th of July parade was divided among five missionaries in the field. A committee planned the disposition. Messrs Wilford Durham and Vivian B Decker were praised for clearing weeds along the west side of the meeting house square. Mr and Mrs Jos B Dalton left for Yellowstone Park for about two weeks visiting points of interest. Mr Taylor Paitingon with a surveying party near Stateline returned. Messrs Mayhew Ifilluen Dalley and Will Reche of Cedar City were in town on business. A note requests return of horse and saddle, last seen in Dry Lakes Ranges in Horse valley by Sam Christie.
Celebration at Cedar Breaks despite heavy rains and a drizzle all day attracted a smaller crowd than last year. A full program including rodeo stunts and a large evening dance proceeded before an interrupted fireworks display due to the storm. Community members and visitors, with local dignitaries, attended events and visits, while others rode in wagons and by horseback. Notes mention local residents, visits, and plans for eye care at Alexander Optical Co. with Dr. Evens scheduled in Parowan.

Surprise wedding of Lorna Orton and Dean Bentley was reported after they secured a license and wed in Panguitch on the 24th. Orton, son of S. T. Orton, is a former service member described as steady. Bentley, daughter of the late John and Sarah Bentley, a Parowan High School graduate, celebrated home girl. The couple spent a day or two at Bryce Canyon before returning. well-wishers extend congratulations. Visitors John R. Sterena and Mrs. Sterena of Bighorn, Wyoming, are in town.
