Mitchell chairs Reationing Board announcing wireang use for receiving applications. Sign up next week from May 1 for canning service with family may submit one application per book. Board urges punctuality, provide Stamp No 37 and 40 details, prices and regulations noted.
The winter season socials for the local M I A groups in West ward and East ward were well attended with programs games and refreshments. West ward activities were led by Janie Richards with Alton Meryis and Arvilla Day directing games while East ward featured numbers and stunts with LaMont Thornock directing games. Both wards plan Sunday Evening Service programs for May 7 and a summer program is being outlined for the various MI A groups with details to follow.
Members of the Democratic party in Parowan Precinct will meet at the County Courthouse on Saturday night to reorganize the three voting districts and select delegates to the County Convention on May 6. Parowan has seven delegates allotted, distributed three in No 1 two in No 2 and two in No 3, chosen at separate sessions. Delegates to the State Convention will be named then along with a county chairman vice chairwoman secretary treasurer and county central committee for two years. Several men seek state offices including Dr E E Monson for Secretary of State Reese for State Treasurer and Oliver G Elis for State Auditor. Two have filed for Governor and Senator Childs for the Legislature. Two Republicans seek the Second District congressional nomination. No filings yet for the county commissioner positions or county attorney.
Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Robinson of Paragonah, aged residents long attached to the town, host an Open House Sunday from 2 p.m. to early evening to mark their 59th wedding anniversary. They recall life in the area and their long devotion to home and family.
A Woman's War Service Caravan bringing WAVES WACs Marines and SPARS will perform in Parowan May 1 at 8 15 p m Mayor W Scott Mitchell announced after meetings with Navy Army and State Council of Defense officials The event aims to recruit more local women for vital war jobs and to delay induction of heads of families by sharing stories of women in uniform Citizens and officials are urged to attend the pageant of women at war and support the caravan efforts for public outreach across Varagonah Summit Vega and St George.
Western Division Public Relations release highlights promotions and service updates for Parowan Utah and surrounding areas. Navy Pharmacist's Mate Second Class Junius Ruesch, 22, promoted after serving in the South Pacific with a Marine unit. Army Private Bill Tee Sattley, 145, earns a three round decision in the tropics. Aviation Cadet Simon K. Benson completes Primary Flight Training at Thunderbird Field Glendale Arizona and begins basic flight training. Sergeant Lamb promoted to sergeant while stationed at Camp Adair Oregon. Local letters from Cyril Pendleton thanking the Parowan Times for keeping soldiers informed. Several Utah servicemen ashore at Hollandia and visiting families, including Kent Mitchell and Beaman Wiltsey, with notes on returns and postings.
Parowan Stake quarterly conference in Cedar City on Sunday May 30 prompts postponement of regular Sacrament meetings in Parowan wards. Ward bishoprics announce that all officers and members should attend conference sessions that afternoon. Sunday school will be held in both wards.
Mrs Faee Benson announces that the summer kindergarten will commence Monday May 3 at 9 am. Parents must accompany children and bring birth certificates. Eligible are children who will turn six on or before October 31, 1944.
Funeral services held Friday afternoon at 2 in the Paragonah ward chapel for Betsy P Robinson with Bishop J Leonard Topham officiating. Interment in Parowan City cemetery followed a large turnout. She was born January 3 1869 in Paragonah and married Hyrum Robinson in 1888 at St George temple. She leaves seven children, 47 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, and siblings Margaret Horsley, Wm Joseph Watts, and Benjamin Watts.
Durham Mortis urges forming a weekly letter writing habit to stay connected with boys and girls in the service. He notes longer service distances increase appreciation for letters and emphasizes regular writing as a civic duty. Mr and Mrs Clifton Taylor traveled to San Francisco after word from their son Veil of his ship’s brief stay, with family members accompanying and sending a station wagon back to Adrian in Oakland.
The Cedar Third and Fourth ward chapel will host the second quarterly stake conference this Saturday and Sunday with Elder Joseph Fielding Smith of the Quorum of the Twelve and Elder Henry D Moyle of the General Church Welfare committee as guest speakers. A special teen girls and mothers meeting is planned along with general sessions and priesthood meetings, inviting public attendance and highlighting the stake’s Melchizedek and Aaronic priesthood activities.
