The Parowan High School auditorium will host the BYU concert choir under a new director from the university on April 27 at 2 p.m. The choir, acclaimed for its recent performances, will present a program celebrating school and community support, with no admission fee for attendees.
Former Paragonah resident Rex Robinson of Colorado is named ranch president of the L.D.S. arch organization in his vicinity. He and wife Mabel have four children. Mrs. Irene Robinson recovering from pneumonia. Teen-Age girls of the Paragonah Ward receive year awards with 19 individuals and 12 group honors. Golda Guymén attends as stake chairman._EVENTS include Primary conference on April 23 focusing on The Lords Prayer and a Utah State High School Forensic Meet appearance by Gaytha Lamans._
Parcwan Parents Teachers Association schedules its annual officer election on Thursday April 27 at 7 pm in the wheel inxilterium. President Miriam P Lister announces ballots will be used for voting and counted before adjournment. Candidates include Golda Guyman for president Alice Haycock Cora Ward for first vice president Thales Brown Lette Sumpan for second vice president Carline Green Golda Lowder for secretary-treasurer and Beatrice Afikel Jane Orten for the post. Three ward members will be chosen from Spencer Emma Dalton Venice Decker Daphne Van Aus Jean Evans and Mary Tubbs. The meeting opens with invocation, welcomes, and secretary Enid Mitchells annual report. Principal A C Hatch will discuss school parent relations. Guest speaker Velma Bayles of St George leads the Utah PTA Council district. Two musicals planned. election results and remarks by the new president follow. Strong parent turnout expected to discuss important matters.
History class from Parwan High School studied industrial expansion by visiting Iron Mountain iron mines on Tuesday. Led by Mr. Max Dalley the group learned from Columbia Steel Corp representatives and a guide about mining operations, gaining appreciation for regional resources before returning to Cedar City for afternoon classes.
Mrs Maude B Parcells reviewed The Morning Will Come by Mrs Sid Sumner at the Patawan Literary Club gathering held Wednesday evening at Mrs Josephine Paramore's home. The group enjoyed the book which addresses the Negro race question in the United States. Lindsey B. Anderson is named branch manager for Holland Company with Cedar City headquarters. He recently attended three days of annual sales and engineering school in Salt Lake City under Bruce Limhouse, Denver division manager, focusing on furnace efficiency and flue gas analysis. Holland will stock complete Holland coal and furnaces, continuing its 44 year policy of factory guaranteed installations with engineered plan sheets and power suction furnace cleaning service. Anderson came to Cedar City four years ago as sub-branch manager from Provo.
Four 4 H leader training meetings were conducted in Iron County this week. Parowan hosted two sessions on Monday with women’s午 afternoon and evening discussions on sewing achievement awards and record books. Cedar City held two meetings Tuesday focusing on scholarships, club organization, and community education with both men and women leaders attending.
Spring maintenance on 550 miles of Dixie National Forest roads is underway. Assistant Supervisor Leland D Heywood says three motor patrols, three dump trucks, three pickup trucks and nine laborers and operators are on the job under road foreman James C Applegate of Cedar City. Crew foremen are Thomas Haycock Panguitch Theo Barker Escalante and William Edwards Cedar City. Work includes blading surfaces, smoothing, culvert cloning, bridge repair, drainage fixes and road sign repairs. Forest roads are kept to administration standards and visitors are urged to drive carefully and not expect boulevards into the backwoods.
Clair Morris son of Mr and Mrs Ray Morris of Parowan will be Parowan s envoy to the Salt Lake City Rotary Youth Conference in the state capital April 22 to 25 inclusive. He is Parowan High School student body president and a three year standout in athletics. He plans to leave Friday at 2 am arriving in Salt Lake for the opening meeting.
The Friday and Saturday nights performances drew enthusiastic crowds. Tiernan tickets sold well for the final act directed by Mickey Varopi. Mrs Myre Mitchell received a 61 year service honor, while Miss Veone Macstarkine earned a handbag for selling the most tickets.
Elwans Corry of Cedar City was sustained as president of the Cedar Stake of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints at a quarterly conference in Cedar City. He is the son of the late E M Corry and Mrs Corry of Cedar City. His wife, Florence Decker of Parowan, will accompany him as stake president. He succeeds David LeRoy Sargent, president since the stake’s organization on May 2, 1884, when Parowan Stake was divided. Sargent had led the former Parowan Stake for about 20 years. Samuel Gardner and Dr. F P Edmunds were sustained as counselors, roles they held under President Sargent.
Children of the West Ward Primary organization will appear in their annual Conference on Sunday evening at 8 1 p.m. in the Ward Chapel announced by president Arvilla Mortensen. Parents, friends and the public are invited to attend. The children will portray in song, story and dramatization the theme The Lord Prayer.
Five members of the Frimarr Guide Class of the Egat Wars received graduation certificates from Primary president Huldah M. Huet Thehoya. Presented by teacher Mrs fetes Bentley, the graduates are Warne Banson Scott Hayatck Connell Mitchell George Ramsey and Carlyle Rollins.
Iron County communities gathered Wednesday night in Summit to honor Elder Oscar Kent Hulet who departs in May for a thirty month LDS Japanese mission. Hulet, son of Parowan Patriarch Oncar J Hulet, is a Summit High School and Branch Agricultural College alumnus, expected to receive a BYU degree this spring, and a World War II veteran. He has served as Summit Ward YMMTA president, Sunday School teacher, and priesthood officer. He will enter the mission home in Salt Lake City in May.
Lieut Col James A Mercer and Mrs Mercer of Ogden visited Southern Utah representing Col F Holbrook at the Military Cadet Fall in B A C. They brought Mrs Mercer’s mother Mrs John B Talten and her daugher Carolyn Dalton. Mr and Mrs William A Thornton return to Parowan for the summer after wintering in St George at the LDS Temple. Mrs Sarah Bayles is home after months in California. L N Marsden of Cedar, former Parowan resident, is hospitalized at Fillmore after a heart attack en route home from Salt Lake City. Nancy Farnsworth and daughter Gloria of St George visited relatives here. Ray Meeks celebrated his eighth birthday with friends. Raymon Mickelson, son of Mr and Mrs George Mickelson, is in Cedar City hospital recovering from an appendectomy. Fred Smith and a Daggett visitor called on Parowan.
Mr and Mrs Gene B Taylor of Gakper Wyoming celebrate the birth of their baby boy on March 19 at Natrona County Memorial Hospital in Casper awaiting the first visit from relatives and friends.
Parowan Jaycees sponsor a new fire fighting equipment project forming a 20 member volunteer department. The apparatus, mounted on a go anywhere chassis with a 150 HP engine, will serve Parowan City and surrounding valleys within a ten mile radius. The unit, painted gold, will be shipped from California to be installed and ready by July 1, providing enhanced protection for migrants and local towns.
A baby boy arrived on April 5 at the Sam Pritchard home, bringing joy to the Pritchard family. He has two sisters, Patricia and Judy Marie. Grandparents include Carl L Crawford and Clayton Taylor, Dan Crawford, and Mary Dalley of Summit, with great grandparents and other relatives named in the public notice.
