Parowan Student Wins Merit Award at BYU Speech Meet
Veron Decker, a local high school student, earned a merit award with an excellence rating at the BYU Speech Tournament in Provo two weeks ago. He participated part of the meet due to missing events for the Junior Prom. Debating teams from the school also performed well, winning all their debates. Their coach, Mr. Hateh, accompanied them. The merit award was confirmed by a letter from T. Carl Pardoe, head of BYU Speech.

Scouts Plan Five Mile Camporee May Fourteen
A district Boy Scout Camporee for the Cedar Breaks District of the Dish Parks Council will be held at Five Mile recreation camp near Parowan on Friday night May 14. Patrols will check in at 2 PM, enjoy contests, a pancake supper, and a camp fire program ending with taps. The next morning features a reveille and a 16 minute scavenger hunt with prize oranges.
