Tax Laws Explained To Commissioners In Parowan

State Tax Commission members Howard P. Leathan and Irwin Arnovitz met Parowan officials on Tuesday to explain recently enacted taxation laws. The Board of County Commissioners pressed concerns over valuing buildings and improvements for assessment and protested value increases, but the discussions yielded little progress.

Parowan High Band Receives Community Backing for State Meet

Parowan High School Band heads to the State Contest in Provo with funds from the County Board of Education about 245 dollars plus Lion Club support. Lions Club members and individuals provided services and transport costs, with 72 dollars allocated to Parowan High School and 39.30 dollars to cover gas and oil for transit.

School Board awards five transportation bids and coal contracts

At its April meeting the School Board awarded five routes to J Rowe Barton and Petty Motor Co for Parowan Cedar City students, with Loe Barton reappointed for Paragonah Parowan. Utah lawmakers enacted a streamlined criminal code after input from University of Utah professors and the State bar. The new act shortens information and indictment forms, adds a not guilty by insanity plea, and requires early notice of alibi plans, with judge review of insanity if challenged.

A Salt Lake City note reports L G D Hyatt plans further dental study at Northwestern University in Chicago with Mrs Hyatt and two children accompanying him. Local optimism grows as the week’s storm brought 1.14 inches of moisture, improving crop germination and livestock feed outlook. Snow surveys show higher watershed moisture than last year, with run-off expected to rise though subsoil dryness may limit yields.

Court To Convene Here On Tuesday

The April term of the District Court in this county will convene here on Tuesday, April 16, at 2 a m. The initial Monday session was moved due to Arbor Day holiday observance proclaimed by Governor Blood. A large civil docket is set with many cases. it is unclear if the jurors will be summoned.

Hatch Reappointed County CMTC Chairman For Five Years

Mr A C Hatch was reappointed as Citizens Military Training Camp chairman for the county. He has held the office for five years and handles applications for entrance to the training camps each summer. Hatch, now a second lieutenant in the Infantry Reserves, is set for promotion to first lieutenant pending one final physical exam.
