Assembly at Fielding High School Program

Fielding High School students presented a program in the school auditorium on Wednesday October 28. The program included vocal duets by Max Haddock and Newell Lewis and by Verla Price and Thelma Passey, instrumental duets by Earl Spencer and Joy Shortlift, and a talk by Can va Whistling.

Local sportsmen write to the state game commissioner at Boise protesting a Franklin hunt near Paris Canyon summit by 17 armed horsemen with dogs. They allege the same method used for rabbits was used on elk and that elk were slaughtered in numbers.

Hunters Kill 200 Deer In Bear Lake County During Season

Deputy State Game Warden Joseph Bunderson reports 200 deer were killed in Bear Lake County canyons and hills this season ending October 24. Bucks and does split about fifty fifty with no accidents or violations. several herds observed in St Charles Canyon.

Pennsylvania Man Wears the Same Boots for 78 Years

In Mifflinburg Pennsylvania Jacon Miller in Pleasant Hill reportedly wears the boots made for him 78 years ago by Civil War bootmaker John Haysworth. Purchased for five dollars the boots were worn weekly for many years and now daily for four years. Original soles heels remain though the bright red tops have faded.

Liberty Notes Hunters Record Deer Open Season

Liberty hunters listed include Orson Hymas Lynn Hymas Irl Nye LaVon Nye Art Austin T L Austin and Bam Austin. Lynn Hymas was wounded by a stray bullet in the arm while hunting and was treated in Montpelier before returning to finish the hunt. Roscoe Hymas remains seriously ill with typhoid fever after a long illness.

Paris and Laketown Men Win Promotions

Logan October 23 by order of Colonel Waller and with approval of President Elmer George Peterson of Utah State Agricultural College three sophomores Clayton H Robinson Laketown Lane Hymas Liberty and Bedford Bird Paris were advanced to officer posts in the college ROTC unit. They were commissioned as Cadet Corporals assigned to Batteries A B and C respectively. Robinson is in Arts and Sciences Hymas in Agriculture and Bird in Engineering.

Birthday Surprise for Lola Thornock at Home

A surprise party was given Friday evening October 23 in honor of Lola Thornock. Guests included Mrs Ida Thornock and Misses Lola Dora La Priel Beulah Faye Bateman with Mr Norman Bateman Raymond Payne Julian Royal Thornock and Eddie Painter. Dancing and games followed the birthday celebration with candles during the meal.

Coach Church's Fielding team beat Thatcher 13 to 6 last Friday in a muddy game. Stuck and Bischoff caught well while Beck and Riggett each scored, Peterson starred. Gilgen and Smith were out with injuries. Fielding now sits at 3–1, next facing Star Valley in Paris Friday at 2:30 with free admission for helpers.

The Paris Second ward hall hosts a Sunday evening program at 7:30 with a focus on the doctrine of pre mortal existence. A Miss Ostlund Male Chorus performs followed by an EB. W. Stucki sermon on pre existence and a double duet. Gleaner Girls speak on pre existence using Oh My Father. Mrs Lizzie Welker gives a brief talk on patriarchal blessings. H. L. Former Paris Girl Mother Delivers Baby Girl

A six pound baby girl was born Saturday evening to Mrs. Phyllis Athay Stewart and Colin W. Stewart of Paris. The mother, a former teacher at Emerson School, and the child are reported doing well. The couple’s in law Mr and Mrs Frank Athay welcomed them from Saginaw Michigan.

Paris Mail Schedule Adopted for O. S. S. Ry. Change

A new Paris mail timetable follows the recent O. S. S. Ry. schedule change. Mail arrives at 9:30 a.m. and 3:20 p.m. and departs at 1:40 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. Mail should be mailed to connect with the 3:30 p.m. eastbound train for connections.

Turkey Shortage May Boost Prices This Year

Contracts from the Idaho Egg Producers association are received for this fall's turkey crop sold through the Bear Lake county turkey pool now affiliated with the Northwestern Turkey Marketing Association. The crop is ten percent short with no birds in storage, so higher prices are anticipated. Nine to ten thousand birds will be handled locally through the pool. County Agent A. E. Duke is secretary.

Armistice Day Program Planned by Paris Legion Post

The Paris Legion post and Women's Auxiliary announce Armistice Day events with a 1:30 p.m. meeting at Fielding auditorium. A detailed program features a speech, color guard, songs, and a uniformed display followed by sports including a marathon bicycle race and relay contests. A grand evening ball closes the festivities at the Paris Pavilion with prizes and a children’s dance and pond fun planned for the afternoon.
