Wendell Stucki of Sugar City and his wife and mother concluded a ten day tour visiting the Victory Jersey Farm in Tours Texas to buy a purebred Jersey sire and attending meetings in St Louis Chicago. He is a professor of agricultural science and head of the Ricks College dairy farm Rexburg and a director of the National Association of Agriculture Teachers and chairman of the dairy advisory committee of the American Farm Bureau Federation.
The Daughters of Utah Pioneers of Pans held their monthly meeting on September 26 at the home of a Stuck with Lula Hoge assisting. Lillias Timmett gave the lesson, Madge Lewis read The History of Davis Lewis, and Dorothy Nye sang with piano by Afton Stucki. Thirteen members attended and a social hour followed.
The Mountain States Telephone and Telegraph asks the Idaho Public Utilities Commission for higher telephone rates, citing rising plant costs per line, larger payroll over 8 million dollars annually, and high taxes averaging 271 dollars per phone per month, with new phones requiring greater investment.
The Idaho Land Board with Governor Smylie and Senator Dworshak toured mining projects in southeastern Idaho visiting the Waterloo mine of the San Francisco Chemical company and Monsanto Chemical in Soda Springs. The trip spotlighted phosphate industry growth and the Georgetown canyon calcium metaphosphate plant project by Central Farmers Fertilizer, a 15 million dollar venture. Barbara Taylor of Paris received a Rexburg Chamber of Commerce grant for the 1957 58 school year announced by Dr Herbert Frost chair of the scholarship and awards committee. A Fielding High School graduate she joined Thespian Club Pep Club and yearbook staff and plans to study nursing as Ricks College began its largest freshman and sophomore enrollment.
The Bloomington Daughters of Utah Pioneers met last Thursday September 26 at captain Lula Reeses home. Ten members attended and Emma Krogue led the lesson. Officers include Captain Lula Reese Vice-Captains Deltha Painter Inez Findlay Secretary Maude Bateman Historian Violet Nelson Chaplain Sarah Hart. A social time followed with a chicken and pot luck dinner.
Budget director R M D Childs, assistant to the governor Robert Hodge, Forester Roger Guernsey, Secretary of State James H Young, Andrew Little of the Idaho Wool Growers, Walter Shodde of the Idaho Cattlemen, and Leon Weeks as secretary are named among officials and association presidents.

Mr and Mrs Ernest Gabler of Smithfield Utah former Paris residents celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary last Sunday. The gathering at the Kiwanis club cabin Smithfield included all seven children 21 grandchildren and five great grandchildren. The Gablers left Paris 13 years ago but visit the area frequently.
Idaho Farm Bureau leaders promote the initiative measure for employment freedom regardless of union membership. They cite farmer autonomy and oppose compulsory unionism while calling for a study on eliminating price supports and production controls. They also oppose railroad rate hikes and plan a Pocatello convention.
Nikki A Monson, daughter of Sheriff and Mrs. O E Monson, St Charles, majors in drama at the University of Utah and appears in Witness for the Prosecution at Kingsbury Hall. The mystery play runs October 8 to 12 with Basil Rathbone in the lead and includes several Broadway actors.
The Fine Arts Club gathered at Mrs. Morris B. Athay’s home where Mrs Arlin R. Pugmire led a discussion of Face Culture by Frederick M. Rossiter. Other members present included Mrs. Glenn Stock, Mrs. Paul J. Haddock, Mrs Allen Stephens, Mrs. Lothar Rich, Mrs. Howard Mecham, Mrs. Bryan Booth, Mrs. B. Crawford, Mrs. Eldon Mattson, Mrs. Raymond Webb, and Mrs. Alfred Hart.
Fred J. Price owner of the Paris Variety Store announces stock of gift items for most occasions. After weeks of stocking up the store he extends an invitation to all interested shoppers.
The city of Paris urges citizens to join a beautification effort at Paris Cemetery on Monday October 7. The two year project aims to convert plots to lawn with progress made last spring and volunteers already contributing equipment and labor.
Fielding High School celebrated Homecoming Day with a crowd of students and alumni but the Spartan football team fell 20 to 0 to Grace. Grace scored all points in the first two quarters while Fielding, hampered by injuries, clung to hope after halftime as the defense held Grace from further scoring.
A panel discussion at Montpelier High School on October 16 at 8 p m features Wade Wells University of Idaho livestock specialist and Bear Lake county cattlemen and the county agent. The meeting aids FFA and 4 H members and local cattlemen in learning steer selection and feeding for market and includes a question session.

Officers chosen: Vice-captains Stella Benson Irene Calder. secretary Maxine Calder. chorister Althea Satterthwaite. organist Leone Loveland. historian Claudia Pope. chaplain Mable Wamsley. registrar Agnes Brooker. lesson supervisor Elva Satterthwaite. Retiring officers received books. Agnes Brooker honored as oldest daughter.
Ray Robbins state chairman of the Republican Party was advised to lead Idaho’s first neighbor-to-neighbor campaign. F. W. Bergeson of Shelley and Olive Woods of Priest River were named co chairs for the drive, which runs October 1 to October 14. Bergeson was named All American Family of the Year with his family in May. Woods chairs Priest River Times.
Harold Rogers of Ogden spent Sunday with his parents Mr and Mrs Alfred Rogers.
The waterfowl hunting season runs October 5 through January 7 with daily shooting hours from sunrise to sunset. Bag limits are five ducks or 10 in possession, with three bonus ducks counting toward eight and 13. Goose limits are six with up to three dark geese, and one Canada goose may be taken in specific counties. Snow geese season is closed in certain counties to protect trumpeter swans. Sagegrouse checks show 5 260 birds from 6 213 hunters, about 85 birds per 100 hunters.

The University of Idaho prepared to begin the second week of classes with a new enrollment high. Registrant No 8718 surpassed the previous 3717 after a Rigby man registered last Friday, with about ten more adding on during the day and late registrations expected in the coming weeks.
