County Dairy Stock Makes Good Showing At Fair

Bear Lake County dairy stock performed well at the Eastern Idaho District fair in Blackfoot. Although not all first awards were won, Bear Lake placed high in Holstein Frisian judging, with several animals earning seconds and thirds. Governors Baldridge praised Idaho's dairy growth and low-cost feeds facilitating production.

Idaho state game department received a Biological Survey report predicting reduced duck supplies nationwide with only about half as many young ducks hatched this year due to drought. Black candidate chosen for county prosecuting attorney post

At a Montpelier meeting of Republican candidates and precinct committee men chaired by Hoge, Parnell Black was selected to fill the vacancy as prosecuting attorney. A three-person committee was formed to seek candidates for the superintendent of public instruction and treasurer roles. A campaign funding plan sets a three percent salary assessment from candidates. A five member campaign committee will oversee operations. A Scotch road sign detour toll bridge ahead.

Old Time Resident H T Humphreys Dies at 80

Hyrum T Humphreys 80 longtime Paris ward bishop and Logan resident died last Thursday after months of illness. Born May 15 1850 in England he emigrated with his family and lived in St Louis Springville Bear Lake Valley and Paris before settling in Logan. He married Caroline Rich and served a mission to the southern states. Funeral Sunday in Logan Seventh Ward with burial in Paris after a Logan Canyon procession.

Bear Lake Resorts Close Season The Hot Springs Remains Open

Summer and fall fade as Bear Lake resorts close for the season except Bear Lake Hot Springs. Outside visitors came for the first time with good business despite a lower lake level. Deer Season Is Cut Short In Bear Lake County

The deer season in Bear Lake county is reduced from 11 days to 5 days, starting October 20 and ending October 24. Authorities say last year’s heavy slaughter reduced the deer population, and hunters, the game department, and forest service officers supported the shorter season. Deer may be hunted in adjoining Utah counties from October 30 to October 30.
