The Old Sikes Party gathered October 20 in the Paris Ward Chapel with Alf Jensen and family of Ovid as chairmen. More than 100 seniors and committee members enjoyed a turkey dinner prepared by the Second Ward Relief Society ladies.
A reception at the Smith Gerlach home in Paris honored Mr and Mrs Frank Sleight of Salt Lake City, married September 19. Parents and grandparents and other relatives attended from Salt Lake City and Paria, with Frank a Fielding High School graduate and former Sleight Co. worker now with Sleight Company in Bountiful. Wedding cake and punch were served as gifts totaled for the couple.
Rich County Utah weighs purchasing a lakeside park at the south end of Bear Lake to create a municipal recreation area. A small tax levy increase would fund the purchase with an election set for November 7 to decide the measure.
Richard L. Hansen, candidate for four year Laketown council on the People's Party, is profiled with education background at BYU Utah and six children. Harmon, a former teacher, principal, superintendent in Nevada Idaho and Hawaii, jurist, and recreation committee member, is active in the LDS Church and community betterment.
Daughters of Utah Pioneers Camp Elizabeth Passey met at the home of Daugh ter LaPriel Athay on Thursday Oct 26. Marilyn Keele performed two accordion solos and Lillas Grimmett presented The History of J. 8. Shepherd. Captain Edna Law spoke on Utahs Three Government. Twenty four members attended with a social half hour. Hostesses were Lauriel Athay Amy Athay Sybil Allred Maud Humphreys Enna Collings Lucille L Rogers. A choked food sale and bazaar are planned for Saturday November 18 at 1 pm in the Hawkes Building on Main Street in Parle.
Nine year old James Clifford Branch of Pocatello has been named Idaho poster child for Muscular Dystrophy Association of America 1961. Governor Smylie proclaimed November as Muscular Dystrophy Month in Idaho and James will help launch the MDAA March fundraising drive. He lives at 829 Willard Ave with his parents and was diagnosed at age six.
The Bear Lake County Farm Bureau banquet will be held Friday night November 3 at 8 p.m. at the Montpelier Stake Center. Reed Benson son of Ezra Taft Benson will speak on anti communism. Grassman of the Year honor goes to Grove Phelps Wilmer Brown and Cecil Quayle. Reservations at the county office in Montpelier phone 901. Lions Club Trio and Paris Ladies Quartet to perform.

The 6th District American Legion held its fall convention at Grace Idaho with attendees from Paris Montpelier and Malad posts. Senator Frank Church spoke, Russell Short gave the address at the banquet, and the Paris Post topped their quota as the district eyes higher membership and a planned November show.
The Rich County School District sponsors a clothing drive for Save the Children Federation endorsed by the State Department of Public Instruction and the National Education Association. Superintendent Richard L. Harmon urges district families to donate warm clothing for needy youngsters worldwide. Miss Anna Stark oversees the project in Randolph Utah with contact numbers 793-2455 and 793-2165.
Mrs Ethel Perkins traveled to Logan to visit her daughter and family the Muton Neiderhausers who have been ill. Mr and Mrs Terry Thompson and infant Angela Sue of Victor Idaho spent the weekend with the Arthur Shirleys. Roy Jacobson from Montpelier visited the Ray Stock family. Paul Stock visited the Heber Stock home. Claudia Stock hosted a surprise birthday for Jaren Pugmire with Dalace Arnell Annette Passey Roger Arnell Jean Beck Spencer Stucki Jane Pugmire Brent Olsen Marie Spencer. Dell Loveland family visited relatives in Ogden over the week end. The Roland Jauasi home was occupied over the weekend while the Jaogsis visited Moab with the Utidys.
Bear Lake Post No 84 of Parla plans to open the local Novelty Theatre by Friday November 3 with a fine picture. Shows run Wednesdays through Saturdays with matinees on Saturdays. no Sunday performances. The Legion seeks a lease on the building and fixtures and will operate on a community basis for local youth, all work donated by members, and appeals for public support.

Letourneau and J Barrud at Georgetown Church House on Thursday November 1 at 2 00 p m The session aims to report on fluoride deposits near Georgetown phosphorus plants with funding from Georgetown Irrigation Company City of Georgetown Central Farmers Plant matched by Carlbow and Bannock counties.

Julia Ann Beck Passey of Lanark died October 28 1961 after a long illness. Born September 11 1873 in Paris Idaho she married Fredrick William Passey in 1899 and lived on a Lanark farm. She was active in church work, served as Primary president for five years and attended Logan Temple sessions until July. Survived by husband seven children thirty grandchildren and forty six great grandchildren.
Senator Frank Church conducted a courthouse tour in Bear Lake County Idaho visiting Montpelier High School Fielding High School Paris and a Montpelier Chamber of Commerce luncheon. He met constituents from 2 to 5 pm and was hosted by Bethine Church and aide Ward Hower. Earlier he and Congressman Ralph Harding toured Minnetonka Cave with local businessmen.
The Fielding FFA boys returned from Kansas City after attending the National FFA Convention. Kelly Matthews, Southeastern Idaho District President, and Wynne Ward, Chapter Vice President, were chosen as delegates. The Idaho delegation traveled by special coach and toured major plants and events including the American Royal Livestock Show and the National Public Speaking Contest.
In Rich County Utah Supt Richard L Harmon was dismissed by the State Textbook Commission which said his subject matter stance was unsuitable for the district. The move targets the county schools as the commission reviews textbook content and curricular offerings across the state.
