Frederick Sleight 1845 1945 obituary in Ovid

Frederick Sleight passed away at his home in Ovid on October 28 after several weeks of illness. Born in Swinesdale Lincolnshire England in 1845 he came to America around 1868 and spent decades in Illinois and Missouri. He married Electa Kelsey and had ten children six alive. An active church worker he served as elder and missionary and remained a High Priest until death. Funeral speakers praised his citizenship and church devotion as his remains were laid to rest in Ovid Cemetery on October 31.

Plowing with Automobile Attachman Entices Utah Fair Crowd

Eschler of Paris bought a Pullford attachment at the Utah State Fair and is now plowing with a Ford. The device cost 190 dollars and pulls two plows at depth, travels faster than most teams, runs in high gear, and needs about ten gallons of gasoline daily plus oil. It can be removed to restore the Ford for road use. Leo Bach of Paris installed the attachment and cooling system and offers information.

Increase in Postal Rates: Three Cents per Ounce for Letters

Postmasters directed to collect three cents per ounce for letters and first class matter from November 2, except drop letters which pay two cents per ounce. Postal cards require two cents prepaid. one cent cards must show an extra one cent stamp. Private postcards with messages require two cents prepaid. The Camp Lifton ladies hosted a masquerade on Wednesday with a large crowd and refreshments.
