Kathlyn Maré travels from California to Allaha to confront Umballa the usurper who claims her sire’s throne. She resists a forced marriage and two beast trials, aided by John Bruce. An elephant escape, jungle refuge, and slave traders complicate her bid to rule, ending with rescue by Bruce and allies.
Bruce and Ahmed plan a silent escape from the prison by using an elephant to pull loose the iron bars. Kathryn Hare is found in chains and freed as the pair work to extract her and her father. Umballa may return, prompting urgent action and a risky breakout.
Kathryn and Bruce plot a midnight trap to free her father from Umballa. Ahmed Ramabai and Pundita involve a leopard as a feint while Umballa is restrained. Kathryn exposes Umballa and demands her father's release with a written pledge.

The dairy herd testing reveals that many well appearing cows are unprofitable while some scrubs prove worthy. Do not rush to dispose of unproductive cows as sale proceeds can fund a dairy sire and dams. Prioritize records of production before purchasing new animals.
The article argues dairy profits hinge on careful, studied feeding. It warns against assuming a single ration suffices and stresses monitoring each cow's response to adjust feed. Small waste in feeding, not large changes, drives profitability in dairying.
