Bear Lake Wildlife Refuge lands set aside in Idaho
Assistant Secretary Harry R. Angerson signed an order withdrawing over 17 500 acres in Bear Lake County for a new Bear Lake National Wildlife Refuge. Senator Frank Church notes the withdrawal respects existing rights and protects Idaho’s claims. The refuge will be managed as a unit of the National Wildlife Refuge System to support waterfowl, nesting Canada Geese, Sandhill Cranes, and ducks. Funds of 10 200 are requested for fiscal 1969 to begin initial management with potential reprogramming for early activities.

Idaho Vehicle Inspection Program Urges Wider Participation
Idaho officials urge greater participation in the Vehicle Inspection Program to prevent year end delays. Superintendent Harold Davis says about 2,000 inspections per day are needed to meet the Dec 31 deadline, with current pace near 1,000 per week across 900 stations. The act requires all registered vehicles be inspected and unsafe vehicles cited and restricted within five days. Davis notes the program aims to remove unsafe vehicles from highways and warns delays could raise repair costs during the holiday season.
