High School choirs earn state ratings at festival
Raymond B led a mixed chorus to one of two C class I ratings at the State Music Festival held May 6. Qorus earned an I rating at the District Festival, qualifying for state. Nineteen choirs competed. Field received a plaque, with judges Glen Lockery John M Dittmer and Dittmer from Ricks College. Elna Brown earned a solo top rating, judged by Archie Jones.

Independence Bond Drive Opens May 15 in Bear Lake County
The Independence Savings Bonds drive will run from May 15 through July 4, led by County Superintendent Amos B. Hulme. Two youths injured in auto crash near Paris
Two brothers Walter and Paul Williams of Bloomington suffered severe head lacerations in a Sunday night crash on the south edge of Paris. A 1937 Chevrolet driven by Ray Law struck the parked 1986 Plymouth of Orson Spencer, sending Spencer’s car 70 feet off the road. both drivers received citations for reckless driving and improper parking. Earlier, Nell Roberta of Lanark collided with a car driven by Ailton Kearl of Fish Haven near Bear Lake Stake tabernacle. no injuries.

Montpelier Businessman Evans Dies at 44
William V. Evans known as Chris, 44, died Wednesday May 8 at his Montpelier home after moving there five years ago to run or join a local cafe business with his wife. He was born May 1, 1904, in Brigham City Utah. Surviving: wife, mother, two sons Jack Evans Montpelier and William V Evans Jr Oakland, a brother Russell Evans Rose and sisters Mrs. Alice Mittenberger and Mrs. Erma Bell Salt Lake City. Remains taken to Brigham City for burial.

C L Mattson, Commander of Bear Lake Post and The American Legion, calls members to wear a poppy for Poppy Day on Saturday May 27. Poppies will be distributed by American Legion Auxiliary to fund disabled veterans and needy children of veterans.
