The Paris Lions Club annual basketball tournament drew capacity crowds this week. In the second round Dingle and St Charles were eliminated after two losses. A Laketown vs Paris Town game was halted at half time due to a broken goal and will be replayed Wednesday, prompting schedule reshuffles for Thursday and Saturday with boxing bouts on Saturday.

Ricks College Announces Fifty Scholarship Awards
Rexburg Idaho Ricks College will award about 50 scholarships to eligible graduates. One $1000 scholarship will go to a graduate of every LDS Seminary in Idaho and a $50 scholarship to a graduate from a high school in eastern Idaho with no seminary. Additional scholarships include four $100 teaching education awards, six $100 agriculture awards from Utah Idaho Sugar Company, and four $60 music awards.

Sharon Canyon Road Work Seems Probable
Construction of a seven mile Strawberry Sharon road linking Bear Lake and Franklin counties appears certain after receipt of a cooperative agreement from the Federal Works Agency Public Roads Administration. The $200000 forest highway funds project may extend to improve the remaining 12 mile stretch and ends a drive by residents for a shorter canyon route. Work will start when funds are available and maintenance will be assumed by the counties after completion as Project 42 A1 Idaho Forest Route 42.

Prominent Dingle Man Dies of Injury in Idaho
Mitchell A. Ream 61 lifelong Dingle resident died after a runaway team accident. He was treated in Ogden Utah where x rays showed broken ribs and a punctured lung before his death. Impressive funeral services were held in Montpelier Idaho with speakers J Clarence Lindsay and J Warren Surrine. Burial followed in Dingle with Moose lodge honors.

Miss Silas Swensen and Miss Grace Hunszker from Montpeler First Ward accept church missions. Hunzker’s farewell was March 21, Swensen’s March 28. They enter the Salt Lake City Mission Home April 11 and depart for California April 21. Hunzker, daughter of Fred Hunzeker, active in Primary and Sunday School, has served as Stake Missionary. Swensen, daughter of Ole Swensen, also a Stake Missionary and Montpelier Stake music director, is an accomplished musician.

Military Burial for Garth Beck in Lanark and Montpelier
The body of Garth P. Beck arrives Friday in Montpelier and will be taken to the Lanark family home. Military services are planned for Saturday at 11 am in the Lanark ward chapel. Beck enlisted in the U S Army on his 18th birthday in September 1944 and was killed in action May 20, 1945 after being overseas since February 1945.
