Two Montpelier Men Arrested For Grand Larceny

Bear Lake County deputies with the Jeep Patrol arrested Roger Sims 28 and Richard Rolan 36 in Montpelier on a grand larceny charge for missing about 1100 feet of underground electrical cable owned by El Paso Gas Products Co. valued at 3500 dollars. Bond set at 5000 cash or 10000 property. Sims released on bond, Rolan remaining jailed. cooperation with Rich County Utah Sheriff Lutz aided the investigation and the theft was linked to material stored in the area.

Fifth District Wildlife Clubs Back Fish and Game Dept

The Fifth District Wildlife Federation expressed unanimous support for the Idaho Fish and Game Department and its handling of seasons and bag limits at a meeting in Idaho Falls. Delegates from 17 clubs, over 80 attendees, approved leaving the hunting outline to the department and discussed forest insect control and a $100 reward for information on moose or trumpeter swan killings.

Church Answers Query On Proposed Wildlife Refuge

A memo from the United States Senate Interior and Insular Affairs Committee dated February 28 1967 replies to County Commissioner Walter Ward of Paris Idaho about the proposed Bannock National Wildlife Refuge in Bear Lake County. The writer says the Bureau of Sport Fisheries and Wildlife naming decision is puzzling and promises to contact Secretary Udall with Ward’s letter and await an answer.

Bear Lake County arrests two for underage beer sales

Last Saturday evening Homer La Rocco, a bartender at Idaho Billiards in Montpelier, was cited for selling beer to a person under 20. Allen Phelps, 19, of Montpelier and Utah State University student, was cited for illegally procuring beer. Phelps fined 50 dollars plus costs. La Rocco fined 100 dollars plus costs and given a suspended 15 day jail sentence. Sheriff’s officer witnessed the sale and arrested both immediately after the transaction.

Bids Open For US Route 30 N Seal Coating Project

Bids will be opened March 28 at the Boise department office for a seal coating job on US 30 N from MP 404.91 to the Wyoming line totaling about 13.85 miles plus 6.4 miles east of Montpelier. Work must finish within 60 working days after start. coating between MP 404.91 and 410.5 within 90 days after notice. District Engineer Orion L. Grunerud oversees the project.

Hansen Names Paris Youth as Alternate Nominee

Congressman George Hansen announced nominations for service academies and Merchant Marine Academy for July entrants. Among those named is David James Collings, son of Mrs. Drue Grandy and grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Collings, named the fourth alternate to the fourth vacancy at the U S S Naval Academy.

Lions Tournament Sets Dates for Paris Lions Club Event

The Paris Lions Club independent basketball tournament runs next week on March 15 16 and 18 at the FHS gym with teams from Cokeville Ogden Preston Soda Springs and Bear Lake County. Bear Lake Valley Market defends. Four trophies plus an all star team. Games start 6:00 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday and three games Saturday. First Lowe Drug vs Monsanto then Ogden vs Yellowstone Savings and Loan and US Army Reserve vs Bear Lake Valley Market followed by Cokeville vs Rosen Distributing Preston. Refreshments will be sold by the Lions Club.
