Bear Lake water storage nears capacity as runoff from winter floods fills the lake. Utah Power and Light notes Bear Lake is rising from a 50 year low, with storage near maximum since 1950 and flood runoff stored for irrigation and power.
Finalists for the Futurity Derby at Montpelier Fairgrounds span June 25 and 26. Entrants include Bully Bull owned by Clarence Lindsay and ee Bar owned by Ivan Ashme, with other horses such as Antonica Bell, Mormon Meteor, Miss Chick Twist, and Dottie Brideean listed by owner.
Enthusiastic crowd at Montpelier Stane Recreation Center attends a dinner to start the Bear Lake Community Concert Association membership drive. Speakers include Dr Paul Davies and Mrs Waldo Andersen. Memberships sold via Yellowstone Savings & Loan with a June 26 deadline.
The Guide Patrols of the Paris 1st and 2nd Wards will conduct a flag raising ceremony on July 5 at 5 00 a m at the Court House.
Funeral services were conducted Friday June 18 at the Garden City LDS Chapel for Claude Sprouse lifelong Garden City resident. Leading remarks by Russell Satterthwaite and a singing quartet with Dr Paul Davies Ray Larsen Hulme Dunford and Dean Ward performed Home on the Range. Interment followed at Garden City Cemetery with bearers including grandsons Glenn Grosjean Stuart Sprouse Gloyd Sprouse Victor Boulagn Errol Pulsipher and Mardell Sparks.
The Bear Lake County Wool Pool loaded its wool on June 16 and 17, producing 171,089 pounds from about 19,000 sheep across 120 growers. Carron Spinning Company of Rochelle, Illinois, contracted the wool, which will be graded in Pocatello and then shipped to Illinois by rail. The Union Pacific Railroad provided loading platform support, with committee members Lester Skinner chairing the group. Weather caused slight moisture on bags as loading neared completion.
Beginning Tuesday June 29 a three day education series at the Montpelier Stake Center offers eight hours daily of courses for four dollars. Topics include art philosophy religion and family life with instructors Andrus Parson Owens Lynn McKinnley and others. Lunches sold by the Relief Society and babysitting services available.
The Grassman Committee selects Ivan Rigby of Pegram the Cochran Brothers of Pegram and Floyd Clark of Georgetown as finalists for Bear Lake County Grassman of the Year. Judges will tour each ranch to judge land use grasses legumes livestock and overall operation. The winner advances to district and possibly Idaho Grassman honors.
