Two Auto Mishaps Near Bear Lake Canal Bridge

Sheriff’s deputies investigated two weekend accidents near Bear Lake Canal Bridge. A Van Nuys car and house trailer left the road into a borrow pit after a trailer separated. damages totaled 2000 to the trailer and 200 to the car. No injuries. Later Karen Hugie’s 1962 Pontiac was struck on the canal bridge by a Bear Lake County semi-trailer. Hugie’s car sustained 500 damage, the truck unharmed. no injuries to either party.

Fire danger rising in region as fires surge

Fire danger is at high levels with precipitation well below normal. Through July 15 Region 4 U.S. Forest Service fire fighters had fought 363 fires, compared with 188 by the same date in 1965. Man caused fires nearly tripled to 112 this year from 48 last year. readers urged to avoid campfires, cigarettes, and any fire in the mountains.
