Madsen Piggott Dies Sunday in Salt Lake City

William Madsen Piggott age 33 died July 15 at LDS Hospital Salt Lake City after months of illness. Born April 20, 1912 in Bloomington Idaho he was son of W C Piggott. Survived by wife five children including twins Merrill and Carolyn, parents in Ogden sisters and brothers. Funeral held Wednesday at Bloomington Ward.

Thornocks Enjoy Seattle Trip Visiting Son Aboard Enterprise

Bloomington couple Mr and Mrs James A Thornock recall their visit to Seattle Washington to see their son Ronald Thornock chief petty officer stationed there. Ronald hosted them aboard the aircraft carrier USS Enterprise now in repair and recalled battles after Pearl Harbor. They also toured battleships cruisers destroyers and other carriers with Philip Thornock and his wife and baby joining at Boise Idaho.

New Shoe Stamp Becomes Valid August First

OPA will validate a new shoe ration stamp No. 4 in ration book No. 3 starting August 1. Airplane stamps Nos. 1, 2 and 3 remain valid indefinitely. The last shoe stamp becomes invalid on November 1, 1944.

Utah Pioneers to Hold Annual Meeting on July 26

Daughters of Utah Pioneers will convene the annual meeting Thursday July 26 at 2 p.m. on the tabernacle grounds. Deadline Aug 4 for canning sugar at local ration boards

Idaho OPA district announces August 4 as final day to apply for 1945 home canning sugar. Dick Batt erton says applications after Aug 4 won’t be accepted. Regional supply will be allocated fairly and earlier allotments are cut to nine pounds. Surplus sugar may be distributed later to aid late canning. Housewives with unused coupons urged to return them to war price and rationing boards.

Bearlake County Surpasses Bond Quota in War Drive

Final figures show Bearlake County purchasing 135 percent of its Seventh War Bond quota. The county was allotted $9,000 in BD bonds, with total sales reaching $193,787 for service members. Overall bond purchases totaled $280,209, beating the county quota of $293,000 by about $100,000.

Memorial Services Held Sunday for Garth Beck

Memorial services were held in the Lanark ward chapel Sunday evening at 8 30 for the late Garth Beck who died of wounds on Okinawa while in service for his country. The service was conducted by Bishop Archie Parker with prayers by Warren Passey and remarks by Bp Archie Parker and others.

Arrested In Fish Haven On Drunkenness Charge

William Vermontvans was brought before Probate Court by Sheriff Bunderson on a drunkenness and disorderly conduct charge from a Saturday night dance in Fish Haven. He failed to appear for trial set at 2 p.m. Monday July 16, and his $25 cash bond was forfeited to Bear Lake County.
