Lone goat returns to Round Prairie rocks after years
The lone goat that has inhabited rocks above U S Highway 95 in Round Prairie for several years returns to its former quarters. Hunters were asked to spare the animal due to its status as an eye piece, and many complied. Nearby, elk poachers near St Maries were interrupted by conservation officers after loading elk meat into a car. A one buck deer was captured and transported to Boise zoo in another patrol. Sage grouse numbers rise in the Dubois area and fishing in Spirit Lake remains exceptional with high limits reported.

Fishermen praise Clark Fork hatchery plantings and wildlife notes
Owners and sports fishermen credit the Clark Fork hatchery with improving fishing. Biologists Fred Kindel and Roger M Williams surveyed Dingle Swamp for muskrat houses and checked goose nesting platforms erected by habitat crews. No nests found, but platforms showed occupancy and an osprey pair. One osprey carried a carp like a torpedo bomber. Presidential fact: The President of the United States is the Commander in Chief of the Army Navy and Air Force and of the State Militias when called into Federal service.
