Local Option Measure Lets Subdivisions Vote on Liquor Sales

The local option measure allows counties, precincts, cities, towns or villages to decide by election whether intoxicating liquors may be sold. A petition equal to one fourth of governor votes or one fifth of mayor votes triggers the election. If prohibition passes, it takes effect in 90 days and licenses cannot be issued. Penalties include fines up to 300 dollars or imprisonment for physicians, druggists, or purchasers. An election can be called again after two years if defeated.

He warns against idleness and credit schemes, arguing wealth grows through steady work with the capital one has. He cites plow, hoe, axe as starting points and promises eventual prosperity if one works diligently.

Too much prosperity in the nation warns California paper

A California paper argues that US prosperity is widespread across mills, railways, and stores with shortages and delays despite rising wages. It cites crowded yards, slow deliveries, and scarce labor while noting rail and locomotive overwork. It contrasts current conditions with 1893 after a Democratic administration.
