Four Bear Lakers to Attend Youth Legislature
Four Bear Lakers were chosen Wednesday as delegates for the Youth Legislature. Seniors Kent Haddock and Le nna Payne and juniors Chris Jones and Janet Smedley will attend the mock session in Boise April 18 and 19, with Randall Ward and Lana Johnson as alternates. Robert Transtrum will accompany as advisor. A pre-legislature session next Tuesday will nominate officers and prepare bills.

Boise records worst 1968 traffic toll in state history
Idaho reports 298 traffic fatalities in 1968, eleven more than 1967, with December alone adding 25 deaths. Canyon County led with 26 fatalities. 92 people died in 39 multiple-vehicle crashes and twenty were pedestrians.

Lava Winter Dates Set at Lava Hot Springs
The Lava Boosters Club schedules a three day winter festival from Friday January 17 to Sunday January 19. Activities include trail rides at 4 PM and an 8 PM magic show by Virgil and Julie on Friday. New State Park Planned on Oregon Trail Site
The BLM and Idaho Parks officials advanced creation of the Three Island State Park by transferring title to a 330 acre tract that once hosted pioneer wagons. The overlook sits near the Three Island crossing on the Snake River a mile west of Glenny Ferry and will anchor most of a large river adjacent park with camping fishing and swimming facilities. The site is identified as an historic preservation by the National Park Service.

Federal log export rules require domestic processing of timber
Regional Forester Floyd Iverson announced new log export rules for the Intermountain Region. The amendment, effective January 1, 1969, requires domestic processing of timber harvested from federal lands west of the 100th meridian, with exemptions up to 350 million board feet annually allocated to Oregon Washington Northwest Region, California, and the Bureau of Land Management.
