Former Resident Dies After Fall in Salt Lake Home
Alfred Peterson age 43 died in a Salt Lake hospital from injuries after a February 22 fall while pruning trees at his home landing on his head on a cement walk. Born in Paris and educated in St. Charles he lived much of his married life in Salt Lake and is survived by his parents wife daughter and several siblings. Funeral services were held in Salt Lake on Wednesday.

Bear River Compact Ends 16 Years Of Talks In Salt Lake City
The Bear River Compact Commission wrapped up its 16 year effort in a swan song meeting in the Utah capitol, aiming for House ratification and presidential signature within weeks. A new Bear River Commission will govern the pact with three state representatives from Utah, Idaho, Wyoming and a federal chair. The compact, ratified by Utah and Idaho in 1955 and Wyoming in 1957, cleared the Senate last session and awaits House and presidential approval.

Old Folks Party at St Charles Enjoyable Affair
The annual St Charles old folks party in the St Charles amusement hall drew over 200 guests with a noon dinner for 250, patriotic decorations, and a program of songs prayers and a play. Bishop LaVell Booth offered a blessing and Eldon Mattson gave a tribute to the elderly.

Grimmett Outlines Federal Interstate Plan to Bear Lake Readers
Idaho lawmaker Orson H. Grimmett says the 1956 Highway Act aims to build 40 000 miles of interstate routes nationwide by 13 to 16 years at about 60 billion dollars. Most funding comes from the federal government while states handle surveys plans contracts and maintenance. Idaho would gain 611 miles of interstate with routes beginning near Snowville and Ontario and extending toward Rupert.

Golden Wedding Celebration For Former Paris Couple In S L C
Former Paris residents Mr and Mrs Joseph H Spencer will mark their golden wedding with an open house on Sunday March 2 from 8 to 7 at their daughter Mrs David T Dittman 8575 South 20th East Street Salt Lake City. Spencer born April 20 1878 is the son of George B and Leonora Spencer. They wed March 4 1908 in the Salt Lake Temple and are parents of seven sons and a daughter. The Spencers left Paris in 1922 and now live at 3497 South 20th East Salt Lake City.

Red Cross Fund Drive Planned Across Bear Lake County
The 1958 Red Cross drive on the west side of Bear Lake County runs in March with a $600 quota. Half funds support national disaster work, half stay with the West Side Chapter. Local programs last year included a swimming course serving about 200 youths and first aid courses for 23 participants.

The first winter storm, a small but note worthy “Bear Laker,” struck the west side of the county Wednesday evening. Old timers predicted it could swell into a real storm early in the night before subsiding to a gentle snowfall. They warn a stronger one may come later in the season.

Fractures Leg in Fall at Hawkes Home
Mrs Catherine Innes fractured both bones of her leg in a fall on the steps at the Hawkes home in Paris last Thursday night. She received X rays at Dr Spencer H Rich office, was moved to Bear Lake Memorial hospital for setting, and will stay with her daughter in Blackfoot and sons in Ogden and Lehi after release.

Taxpayers to Vote Again on Bear Lake School Bond
Bear Lake County voters will return to the polls on March 25 to decide a bond proposal for two Montpelier school buildings an 15 room elementary and a vocational agriculture facility. The bond amount matches the failed February 18 vote. The Board of Trustees of Class A School District No 88 approved reissuing the issue and stated no small schools would be closed.

Out of staters pay for wrong licenses during past month
Idaho Fish and Game reports January arrests show 47 of 120 fish and game cases involve non residents with improper licenses. Violations include 41 waterfowl laws, 15 miscellaneous hunting offenses, five big game, three pheasant law infractions, seven fishing charges, and two for aiding minors. Total fines reach 3193 dollars split between the Fish and Game fund and counties.
